While driving to school yesterday, my CEL came on during traffic congestion. I got it checked and it seems to be the EGR valve. Does the dealer cover this part under the extended warranty for the 2.5TL if i have brought the car to them before under the warranty to change the exhaust manifold and oxygen sensor, but not the EGR valve. I still have less than 150,000 miles and is under 15 years.

I think they would cover it? anyone know? I would think the EGR is still covered under the emissions warranty.

Call the Honda Corporate in CA and ask. They can tell you with the VIN if you are covered or not.

A call to the corporate resolved my problem when the dealer did not want to honor my warranty because I was at 155k with in the 4th year of the ownership. After talking to the corp, they agreed to fix everything even I was at 155k. I told them that they had a defective product and I could not be held responsible just because I used to do a lot of driving.

I bought my car from a private seller and when i brought it to the dealer to do the exhaust manifold warranty work they didn't say anything. So i guess it still works, but call just to make sure. I will have to call for my EGR valve whenever i have some free time.

if i got a 1997 tl 2.5 190k on the odometer but a swapped motor with 80k (stock 5 cylinder) will they do this work using the swapped engines vin #? where can i find my vin on the block

Good luck finding that on the block.
Block has some 4 digit number and somehow there's connection but no one seems to know how.

so no luck? if i called honda do you think they would approve of that? me using the other engines vin? i mean that car isnt on the road so i hope they wouldnt care ha.. they probably will turn me down tho

They may not find out.. if they are looking for it, than only they will know.
If you don't tell, chances are that they will not bother.
But, I am not telling you to do the wrong thing.

ha i dont care about that, but the vin on my door will be no good. simply, is there a whole vin somewhere on the swapped engine that i can try to use..

ok, why are you so concerned about the vin?, if your original vin has more than 150k, than you are out of luck. They really don't care if u put in another engine which has less mileage than 150k. By putting another engine in your car, you have already voided the warranty.

Just an update, I've just finished calling American Honda and they told me that if it's emission related, then just bring it to an Acura dealer and they will fix it. EGR valve is covered under the extended emission warranty.

My check engine light came back on again after exactly a month after bringing it to the dealer to have the EGR valve replaced free under warranty. It is the EGR valve again. How can a new EGR valve be faulty in only a month??

^^^ the actual valve isn't always the problem.. since the valve is new the pipes are probably clogged with slug and stuff.. i recomment some seafoam and clean throttle body.. look it up in the DIY real easy

thats retarded, they prob didn't put a effort in cleaning the intake manifold

when i fail my emission, i brought it to the dealer and they clean it all out , and inspect everything and till this day i havent had it back on..and lucky i got a letter for extension for it.

While the car was there with them the first day, the service adviser told me that they didn't have the EGR valve in stock for my car so they clean the throttle body that day. It was a friday so they kept my car over the weekend telling me that the part should arrive on monday and they put it in that day. As far as I know, throttle body has been cleaned and new EGR valve.

I was planning on bringing my car back to the dealer this summer regarding the EGR warranty for the second time but the CEL turned off by itself a couple of weeks ago and not coming back. I am thinking that Shell V-power have something to do with this because since then I only used Shell V-power because of their advertisements about getting rid of gunks in engine parts. I guess it works.
