Check Engine light

For last week or so I had the CEL on . I took it to Auto Zone today and it came up with this two error codes, P0401 ( Insufficent flow in exhaust gas recirculation) and P0300 (multiple misfires have occured).
I cleared these two codes and the Check Engine Light went off.
My question is, do I really need to repair it now or I can drive it for a while? I understand that I will need to do a majore tune up.
I could do everything except for Dist cap, it's in such a tight location and Fuel filter.
Any suggestion ?
Does anybody have a step by step on how to change Fuel filter ?

Welcome to the boards!!

From reading your profile, you have a '97 2.5TL. That means that you're under the extended emissions warrenty. Take it to your Acura dealer and they will perform the repairs for you for free. If your car has more than 75k miles, then they will also do a free tuneup. So take it in and see what they can do. Good luck!

Don't know about the 2.5 but on the 3.2 NEVER drive if the light keeps flashing....means the misfire is bad enough to cause damage. Learned that when my friend scanned mine. Changed my plugs ($120 for all 6 platinums!!) and cleaned the air filter and all was good.

Actually, no. The warrenty period is 14 years or 150,000 miles, whichever comes first. Maybe you can still take it to Acura and plea for it. Asking for their goodwill and pay at least part of the repair. Good luck!!

The insufficent flow in exhaust gas recirculation sounds like your EGR valve... it recirculates your exhaust back into the engine etc... blah blah blah... and about the missfires... it should be related to the EGR valve... also, what Octane do you put in the tank???

1. You can drive it for a while... but i wouldn't recommend you drive hit while it missfires, since it can cause damage... regardless of it being a 2.5 or 3.2 thing... Drive on a need to basis...

2. About the distributor cap... i'm clueless... i know i'll have to tackle that pretty soon... and the fuel filter... it should be to hard... since its in the engine compartment... but i heard its hard to loosen it to get it out... Don't remember who did this... but it shouldn't be too hard to change... then again, easier said then done...

i hjad the indufficient flow problem...they cleaned the ports out for free at the dealership. Misfires could be related to EGR, or could be plugs, and/or wires.

I can personally confirm it because I have a '96 and had the car checked out once already under the 75k-mile mark. If it is over 75k miles, you are entitled for a free tune up.

so i guess my question is what do you tell em when you take the car up there..."hey my car has 145K miles, give me my free tune up!" this sounds to good to be true...lol...i mean what all does the free tune up consist of?... what do they do to your car?...sorry for all the questions but i find it hard to believe that the "stealership" would actually perform any work on a car that is almost 10yrs old for free...

Fine. Don't believe me. My service advisor told me to bring my car back for a free tune up at 105k along with the timing belt replacement. But you don't have to believe me. Here's something that may persuade you:

this man speaks the truth - just walk upto the "stelaership". Dude, I'm 16, and I booked an appointed with the dealership 4 days in advance, walked up at about 8am on a friday, asked em to do the free tune up or whatever, and address any open recalls. Took a prinout from the link (nsxprime.com) for proof just in case. They gave me a loaner for the weekend (98 acura integra ls) which I enjoyed, and then I collected car on monday.

And while waiting for car to be ready on monday, I test drove 05 Acura RL and 05 TL. But thats besides the point.

Just get it done man - your at 145k, times running out.

I called and just told my service mgr that I have been a customr for 7 yrs, I bought my car new there in 1997 and they should atleast do a one time free tune up for goodwill gesture. He said I wish I cold but I am sorry.
MyjJob required almost 160 miles a day driving from 1997 t0 1999, so my car racked almost 150k miles in 3 yrs. So, by the time the free emmision recall came out, I had just over 150k miles. They never had done a free tuneup nor any warranty work.
I will go see the General Manager of my dealer Monday and demand to do free tune up. If he does not, I will make an appointment with Zone Rep.
Thanks for the link above, I will also print it out and take it with me.

thanks

When my waranty work got done, I didn't get a loaner. I had an appointment for a Friday at Inskip Acura in Warwick, RI for the replacement of an O2 sensor. To make a long story short, they "ran out of time" to get to it on friday, and ended up replacing the O2 sensor, exhaust manifold, and ball joints, and I got the car back on Monday. I would not have had it back Monday either if I had not gone in and loudly voiced my oppinion of their shitty service in front of a bunch of potential customers.

A loaner car is like a rental, can have until 25 or something.
If you got a loaner car then......cool, if anything happens it's the dealers fault anyway for giving it to you .

Okay, 1st off...WolfPackBill needs a serious pat on the back! What a great find!!! My light just came on today on my way home from work (now at school) and I'm sure it's because of a related subject in this fourm. I gotta call Acura tomorrow to schedule an apt.

I love this site! You all kick serious arse!!!

PS Working on reloading my 3.2, and Prelude pics back on this site. Will post when I geter done.

Sweet!

So I took my car in today for the apt.! EGR Valve was what set of the check engine light. They took care of that, repaired a lot of other parts, gave me a tune up w/ new plugs & coils, changed my oil, and washed my sexy lady for me. Best thing about it...thanks to Wolf it didn't cost me one red cent! Much love!

I just wanted to add to this thread my experience with the dealer in Gainesville: My CEL came on for egr valve and I called up the dealership. They got me in 2 days later and cleaned the valve, put in new plugs and coils, and cleaned the car inside and out. I declined the oil change because I just put in some new synthetic. Everything was free of charge and I'd have to say it was the best dealership experience of my life!!

Up to you...I believe it's covered up to 150K miles w/ their extended warranty but why wait? It seems like everyone's is going out around the 100K-110K mile mark. Yours is probably due anytime....

I'm at 149,300 miles. I'll act this week and hope for the same good experience . I've had the CEL since about 110,000 but since my economy was good (23-25 mpg), I never took any action.

The TSB posting that Wolfpack provided was awsome - I need to find a link to all of the 3.2TL TSB. I found a list of the titles, but I want the actual bulletin. Anybody have a source?

Yup It's a "recall" that Honda Motor Company put out to cover the problem and like all recalls, it doesn matter when/where you bought it...mileage is the only factor

Just picked my car up. The Check Engine Light (CEL) is out, I've got 6 new spark plugs, a new ignition kit (P/N 06300-P5G-305), and a bunch of new gaskets - all FREE OF CHARGE! They would have changed the oil and filter and washed the car too, but I didn't want them to.

Who knows what parts included in the ignition kit (P/N 06300-P5G-305)?
