Check Engine Light
A few days ago I was starting my car up in the morning to go to school and my check engine light stayed on. I have no clue whats wrong, because it seems to me like everything is working fine. No wierd noises, steering problems, engine problems at all. I also got my oil changed within the last 250 miles. What could it be and how can I check? I gotta do a 70 mile drive tomorrow and I really dont wanna break down on 101 in the middle of nowhere.

what year TL do you have? anyway, check your gas cap and turn it until it clicks AT LEAST 3 times. once you do that, it doesnt automatically turn off the light, you'd have to make like 3 trips for it to turn off so give that a try. if not, check your air filter and see if its dirty. if not enough air gets to the engine, your engine light comes on.

Sometimes different gas types make the check engine light come on as well as some other differences in normal driving status--
There's alot of reasons why this light could go on. I recommend that you take it in and have them (dealer--yikes, I know) look at it...There's an Acura place right off of 101 on the southbound side, I think, in Santa Rose. Don't remember the name of it.
By the way, are you heading north on 101? Willits? Garberville? Just wondering--I used to live in Arcata and made the drive between SFO and Arcata at least once a week transporting....uh...well, you know--northern california's finest!! (of course, in my nice TL!).
Good luck....

California has a nasty reputation for bad gas. It could as simple as watered down gas or as complex as the gas destroying your emissions equipment.

The same thing happened to me and the dealer said to just unhook the battery cable. I think it's the gas cap 'cause when I fill the tank the light comes on. The engine runs perfictly. I don't know... for all iI know it could be that stupid )-2 Sensors goin out!

Most likely just the oxygen sensor, probably the primary one. Your 962.5TL should have a 14 year/ 150K mile emissions extension on it that should cover most all the emissions. It covers that loud exhaust header that everyone complains about. OH YEA!!! Dont forget to get your free emissions tune between 75k and 150k..............Jeff

Thanx guys, I guess I'll take it to Autozone or Kragen cuz its a lot closer than the dealership. I already got the emissions tune awhile ago, actually previous owner got it. Hopefully its not big because I'm a bit broke right now after buying my subs.

The 02 sensor is covered by the extended warranty for 96-97 TL's up to 150k miles i think, so it wont cost anything. I have a 98 and got mine repalced like 2 days ago and that **** cost 255 just for the sensor, not including labor.
