Check Engine Light
Hello all:
I have an Acura 2.5TL with around 62k miles. It is giving me Check Engnie Light. It also has a little rough idle.
I took it to mechanic. They are chain mechanic and give 3 year, 30000 miles warranty. They preformed a lots of repair, hooked up all kinds of computers and tools but just could not fix the problem.
The code, according to them, is the cylinder misfire code. They ended up in replacing EGR valve, idle air control motor, air intake gaskets, spark plugs, wires, etc, but nothing seemed to work. They finally gave up on it.
Did anybody else had this kind of problem. The light goes away if I remove the battery and plug it back in. But it comes back after like 35 miles of driving or so.
A response would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Sohail

It might be the O2 sensor. I know a friend that had that problem and did the whole disconnect the battery and then it goes away for a little while but then comes back again. He went to the dealer and they replaced his O2 sensor. His check engine light went off and stayed off. He drives a 97 3.2 but i think its essentially the same. Hope things work out.

got the 02 sensor replaced yesterday for free under the emmission recall on my 96 2.5 tl. same check engine light problem.
Since the replacement no engine light. I think they will do the warranty work between 75-150k miles, also got a free manifold, wires, plugs, oil change, filter

tha hipnotic,
They'll honor it. I was the second owner of my car too and they did it for me twice (although it was slow and they treated me poorly because my car was preowned)

I have a '96 RL and have had a catch 22 problem with Honda honoring the warranty on the O2 sensor problem. While the problem is under warranty for 150,000 miles, the odometer light went out and mileage could not be verified. Honda refused to honor the warranty. I provided a maintenance receipt from '97 showing the mileage being 97,362.
Ultimately I had to contact the president of U.S. Honda. When U.S. Honda refused to honor the warranty I asked for the contact info for President of Honda Motors in Japan.
U.S. Honda president then said they would honor the warranty - THIS ONE TIME ONLY.
