CD Player Error CDPEO - Replace of Fix?

I just got an error message when I inserted a CD. It was CDPEO. I was wondering whether I should have the unit repaired or whether I should replace it.

If repair is the answer is ther a good place to send it to. If replace is the answer is there a good place to buy another player? Should I go with a like player or is there a different brand that would be good?

Thanks in advance for any help.

CDPEO is a generic error message that says it can't read the cd. The stock headunits don't read burned cd's very well and sometimes even mess up on "real" cds. The fix is to just keep shoving the cd back in. Eventually it works (but I wouldn't do this while driving).

If it keeps giving the error message and you're sticking in different real cds and such, then it might be condensation on the head. You'll have to wait this one out.

For a real fix, replace the headunit.

yes, that error msg is normal. stock units dont always play burned cd's. i think it depends on how you burn it too. if you have a lot of burned cds and just want to play them, your best bet is to invest in a aftermarket head unit that plays mp3s or whatever. good luck

Thanks - What is a good new radio/cd to buy

I appreciate the feedback. Is there a unit to install that is reasonably priced that I could install myself? I have read the removal instructions and a replacement, provided it fit the opening, wouls seem like the way to go. Ardavis

radio

Would it be better to replace the headunit or to just get an alpine cd changer w/ adapter for the original headunit?

Thanks

I get that error occasionally. Doesn't matter if it's CD-R or regular CD's, it's just when the humidity is up, the lens gets fogged. Turn on & blast your AC, and eventually it'll go away (don't bother re-inserting the CD, just wait 5min). It's a hassle, but it only happens a few days a year (today being one for me). I'm going to try a CD-Cleaning disc and see if that changes anything.

The stock unit is a piece of shit. Get a new one. The sound quality is much better, and has better features. Install it yourself. It's not hard at all.

It's true this method will work but its only a temporary fix...you'll have to clean it about every month or so. I guess it's alright if you dont mind but getting a new cd player isn't a bad idea and having a remote and mp3 player is always better then changing cd's

I had the stock unit in my Acura. It had no problems but the skip forward and some other buttons didn't work.

So I got a Pioneer DEHP-4600MP. Plays MP3s (I got 11 albums on 1 disc) and the stock speakers (the Premium package) sound amazing! So many of my friends think I have gotten new speakers. Cleaner sound and more bass... can't beat that.

I have the same deck too, but there are a few things about it I don't like. It doesn't play the next random track when you click next, only on its own. Plus, at night, it's blindingly bright. I just wish it had the illumination wire.

I agree with you on the next random track, but it's not much of a bother for me. And the brightness of the unit at night isn't bad though a way to control it would've been nice.

I have that problem once in a while. I tried buying the cleaner DID NOT WORK, atleast its still useful for other things and the AC for humidity noway, but still tried it. I foundout it was the type of CD-R I was useing. Some work better then others.

Just get a new radio.

Replace or get rid of

I am getting the error code ER1. the code that says consult the service department (they all want you to do that). The little door wont close and it seems as if the 'burned' cd causing the problem. Is there a way to reset the cd? Or to get the other cds to eject. It keeps defaulting me to my radio. What if I take the fuse out and put back in? Is there a fuse for the radio? thanks!

3 1/2 years since the last post in this thread... Disconnect the changer then reconnect it. Then try holding the eject button down for awhile. I hope you didn't put a label or a sticker on the disc because those can peel and get stuck inside.

~Cheers~

Your in the wrong section. This is for first gen. '96-'98 TLs and you have an '03. You should be in the second gen. section.

I just got an adapter for the cassette player that connects to my MP3 player.
It's better than carrying a bunch of CDs in the car and the sound quality is not too bad.

If you're going to do something, do it right. You seem like you're from the group that thinks an FM transmitter has good sound quality.

If you want good quality then you have to get the iPod connection that goes straight to the radio. Even something that is close to that.

Direct RCA cable connection > Cassette Adapter connection > FM Transmitter Connection

As for the CD problem. Lens cleaning is recommended. Use a good branded burner (ex. lite-on) and media (ex. imation cd-r) write speed set to about 12x. If you have a branded laptop try using the burner in it at the above specs. Provided you have no other mechanical problems this should fix the "not reading burned cd" problem.

Question does the pioneer have hookups for all 6 of the OEM speakers?

the original system has 6 speakers - most aftermarket stereos support only 4.

Actually it has EIGHT speakers

And you'll have to splice wires because the overhead midranges run on a different impedence.

aha! sounds like you've been there. So there's tweeters on the dash and middies up top.

What I don't know is if the head has separate outputs for these "extra" speakers or are they simply wired on the same output circuit as the fronts? If they are wired with the fronts then it's really only front and back stereo channels and 4 output channels should be ok...

Mine are wired to the fronts, with the left mid fed by the right channel and the right mid fed by the left channel.
