brake work done = i love my TL again

199,5xx and runs great...

brake master, front pads, turned front rotors, bled system twice ... no more grinding or crumbling under braking

now i'm motivated to look up how to change my accessory belts, 2/3 of them are cracking and squeaking... where to look? Looks like it'll be a pain in the ass compared to my 2.2cl since there's like no room for arms

If you take out the radiator/fans, that frees up a LOT of space.

~Cheers~

^no need to do that, it really isn't that bad. I did a timing belt on my old legend without even removing the upper radiator hose.

IMO take out the radiator because it makes it 10x easier.

Also replace the tensioners while you are replacing the belts. I didn't do it and now they are squeaking sometimes when I start the car.

I am about to do this belt change, my alternator belt is showing wear. I just did my coolant drain-flush, means if I need to take the radiator, I need to dump fresh Honda coolant?

Sucks! Should have known this! And yes, it looks intimidating. I have read the manual and it is not clicking....yet. Do I really have to remove the radiator?

When you remove the radiator, the work is easier. If you don't do it then it will be tougher but it is still manageable.

Any special tools required? Should I just follow the manual? Tips?

How much would a shop charge if I provide the belts? Fleabay has a set of all 3 for $60.

Air tools are said to be needed but I just used hand tools and everything has been fine and I installed everything last May.

Did you even use the belt tensioner gage? Or just used common sense?

Common sense. I had some help. I learned during this. My dad use to be a mechanic and does help me out sometimes. He replaced many belts and knew exactly what to do to get them out. He showed what was loose and what was tight. If you can't pull it at all then it is too tight. It should fit snug on the pulleys.

Also after you replace the belts, replace the tensioners as well. I didn't do that and now I am kicking myself in the ass about it because the belts are squeaking when I start the car now.

Tensioners, meaning a dealer supplied item?

Great tip!
