hey this is going back to the LED project for the displays again... sorry to bring it up again and again.. i couldn't find my old post on it but newayz i took apart the shifter and yanked out that bulb today and it was really small... i somewhat know what u told me to do.. since the led won't fit in there do i let it hang???? or when i solder it in it will stay????and plz specify again with the connection... do i pick any of the terms as a positive and put a resistor in there??? and is that the same as a diode???
There are 2 ways I know to do this.
#1 - I used one of the sockets like the ones behind the cluster for the blinker bulbs. There was an extra one somewhere. It snaps right into the shifter plate. You need to drill a hole straight thought the bottom and solder 2 wires to the LED leads and hook them up to the shifter plate plug.
#2 - You can probably just hot glue the LED in there and solder 2 wires to it and hook them up the shifter plate plug.
There IS a positve lead on the LED. The longer lead is the positive. Make sure you wire them right or else they wont work. If you cross polarity by accident it wont blow out as long as the resistor is on the positive LED lead.

wait so i am drilling the hole in the socket that holds the led or i am drilling into the plug???? if it is the socket where do i get those, do i buy them or stuff???? i amconfused... but i know after that i can finish this mod... and how small is the drill bit i need???? pretty small im assuming...
Don’t drill a hole through the plug. Leave the factory plug alone. Check all the small sockets in your cluster (same one as the blinkers use). I think I had an extra one that wasn’t being used. If
you don’t have one, the dealer should have them for a few bucks. Just tell them your missing one for the blinkers behind the cluster. OR you can try to just hot glue the LED in place but it might make a mess. I like this mod because you don’t have to modify anything and it can all be reversed.
You need to get a socket like the blinker bulbs because it snaps into the shifter plate. Once you have that, look inside the socket, you’ll see gold terminals, rip those out. Now you should have an empty socket. Drill a hole in the bottom of the socket. Its not a big deal how big it is. Don’t make it too small because you don’t want the LED leads to touch. Slide the LED into the socket so both leads come out of the hole in the bottom. Solder a resistor to the positive and then a wire to the resistor. Solder a wire to the ground. Tap those 2 wires into the shifter plate plug wires.
Thats it! The LED should light up and snap in place. Good luck!
What kind of LED are you using? I needed a LEDtronics wide angle LED for this or else the
whole plate won’t light up.
