96 TL 2.5 engine very rough sounding

Hi All, I have a problem with 96 TL 2.5 engine being very rough sounding. I use Synthetic Oil, just changed the transimission oil and loaded the "shudder" liquid as per some previous threads, use 91 Octane gasoline.
I can not seem to figure out why the engine is so lound and noisy. Also, when I am sitting in the car, i can feel the vibration/shudder in the doors.
I took into a dealer and they indicated that this is normal. To me if this is normal, then this car should have not been released to the market.

Any ideas? Thanks for the help.

also, there is a emissions recall for that year and engine size ( i owned a 96 2.5 premium). THe dealer replaced a cracked exhaust manifold and spark plug wires under the recall. My TL ran quiet and smooth even before the recall work was done. It should not run rough normally. I had about 146,000 when I traded.

Thanks for the quick response.

It is the WYNNS Ulta Smooth Shudder removal from Canadian Tire for the Transimission.

When the engine is running, and I put my hands on the engine itself, I don't feel any vibrations or shuddering of the engine while you press the accelator.

Regards

Sounds like the motor mounts are ok then.

Look into something related to emissions.

EGR, valves, compression test.

Shudder liquid? You put it in the oil or the gas? What?

Compression test is done to make sure there are no leaks in the engine.

Valves, well, the 2.5 does NOT have self adjusting valves, so those need to be periodically done to make sure the engine breathes properly.

The EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) is often the first thing to cause bad emissions, engine vibration or bad fuel economy.

if u hear screech sound coming from the engine and u just got your belts replaced... that usually means one of the belts is not tight enough.. .happened to me with the p/s belt when i got all those belts changed...

Does anyone know how much a new EGR valve costs? I need to replace mine to pass emissions, and my engine is also running like crap. It sounds terrible.

I think Acura has to replace it. Are you under the emissions warranty?

What year is your TL and what engine?

Price of Valve Set, EGR would be about/between $145.38 and $169.05 according to acuraautomotiveparts.org ...

If you hit the site up, find you car and check the Intake Manifold... the EGR is mounted around there...

My car is a '98 2.5L, which isn't covered under the recall..which sucks cause I doubt they changed anything from the 96-97 models. I have all the same problems the 96-97 guys have.

I figured the part was going to be about $150. Anyone know how easy this is to install?

my dumbass almost paid the dealer thousands to replace a cracked manifold on my 96 2.5 ...

I had Midas spot-weld it for $350 :damnit:

any links to the recall info so I can bust balls at the dealer?

Hey, check to make sure you have changed your oil recently and that you are are using 5w-30 oil, synthetic the better. My engine was sounding very rough, had the wrong oil in it. Did an oil change used Quaker State Synthetic Blend 5w-30 and now is very smooth sounding.
