Unhappy 96 3.2 tl stereo removal

I need to pull my stereo out to get the serial number so I can get my security code from the dealership. I know that the carpet opens up by gas pedal and allows access to the back of the stereo but the space is too small to fit any tools in. Does anyone have any experience removing a 96 3.2 stereo or know where I might find some more information?

Been a while since I took mine out, but there is a screw that you have to get to behind the stereo. It IS very difficult, and a royal pain, but with the right tools and extension, it can be reached from the passenger sied, I think I took out the glove box as well to make things easier to get to. I think you also pop off the woodgrain trim around the stereo to get to some of the screws...been so long I forget, but hopefully this will help. I know the woodgrain comes off fairly easily, just be very careful pulling.

yea you just have to gently wedge something flat in the wood trim and wiggle it out (id recommend a butter knife), try starting at the far edge and work closer to the stereo. theres are some clips that are a bit tricky around the stereo itself. also there is two plugs from the climate controll

once you get off the trim there is just 4 screws adn then yank out the stereo and then disconnect the plugs in the back

Before you go through all that trouble, there are 2 places that you should check for a sticker that has your CD player code written on it.
#1 Pull out your coin tray, and look at the bottom of it to see of there is a sticker stuck to the bottom of it.

#2 Check your glove box. Pull it open and look on the sides of your glove box. There might be a sticker there too with a 5 digit number.

My CD player needed a code cause i disconnected my battery to do some crap. My uncle works at the local dealership and told me to try those 2 places. I found my code on a sticker stuck to the side of my glovebox.

Give it a try and let me know how it goes.
