22 MPG on the Highway!?!

I just looked at the fuel economy chart thingy here: http://www.fueleconomy.gov/

and it says that we get 22mph on the highway!!
What in the hell man!? My 1999 Lincoln Town Car with a V8 got better milage than that! (26mph)

Is there some error?

You should get at least 24 mpg on the highway on our cars. Those EPA fuel economy charts are out of whack.

The 3.2 was originally rated at 19 city and 24 highway. I've gotten as high as 30 mpg.

Welcome to the the world of TL. We don't get good mpg, period. There are quite a few threads about mpg on here, most of them being complaints, lol

On the bright side, you pay far less for maintenance

With a large displacement engine you can put a tall gear to give the car good highway mileage. Corvettes can get 30 miles per gallon

A huge part of fuel economy is how you drive. Do some research on fuel-saving driving tips and you'll be surprised.

True, but in the case of C series engines connected to an automatic transmission they do approximately 2250 rpms at 60 mph. Thats 3000 rpms at 80 mph.

My point being the 4th gear could be taller and it would have the torque to do so. The Legends with 5 or 6 speed manuals would get 28 mpg at least.

Heh, my '91 Prelude was around 4000 rpms at 80 mph. Thats not an exaggeration. I think the S2000 is the same way.

True, I bought it used and it drives just like a new car with no major repairs in the last 5 years. Check this out... I pay less for maintainces and repairs than my neighbor's newer car

The best I've gotten was 26mpg on the highway cruising at around 65-70mph. It gets terrible mileage overall for an engine with such little power. And to add to that, I can't say mine is reliable either.
