Timing Belt

Has anybody ever had a timing belt break?

Is it absolutely necessary to have it changed out at the prescribed times?

No, but if it does your engine is toast. I would change it way before the 100K mark, like at 60K just to be safe.

I had mine done at around 135k. I also had the water pump replaces. They say every 60k but i think thats just a way to make more money but my service ran around 1k. I did get a fully loaded TSX loaner for a day though....that thing was kinda fun to drive.

Timing belt

I have a 96 rl i picked up this past January.... 138,000 miles

The vehicle was in decent shape, but needed some TLC. I asked the lady I bought it from if she had replaced the timing belts on it & she said yes.

I then asked her if she had a receipt or proof that it was done recently & she couldn't find it.

So my question is should I beleive her or change it to be on the safe side?

I have recently done:

Spark plugs
Ignition Coils
Egr valve & pipe
Intake manifold Cleaning & replaced the gaskets of course
Cabin & reg Air Filter
Motor Flush & upgraded Oil
Control Arm
Front & Rear brakes
Sway bar link & trailing arm (rear-driver side)

Only paid $ 3,000 for it!!

You can check your timing belt condition thru a peep hole on the upper cover (left and right) of the timing belt whether it is good or not. You may need a flash light to see better. Or you can just simply detach any side of upper cover for better check.
