Stereo Problems

I have an 2000 RL and the stero is all stock bose except for the head unit, which the previous owner replaced with a sony xplod unit. Im having this issue where if I hit a bump or accelerate hard I get some really annoying static through the stereo when music is playing. Its coming through the left channel somewhere, I think its the rear 6x9 but i havent been able to pinpoint it. It also seems like when im playing with the fade and balance the left side is a whole lot quieter than the right side is. It also seems like the problem gets worse when its damp out but that could just be my imagination. Last summer I replaced the Bose amp (with another stock unit) because it shat the bed.

I know next to nothing about car audio and was wondering if anyone could help me pinpoint the issue so i can fix it

If you ask me it sounds like a bad ground. That could mean its in the wiring to your speakers or there may be a cold solder joint or bad ground in the actual stereo or amp maybe.

so is there any way to test that besides just starting to replace things? Someone on a car audio forum suggested switching the channels on the head unit and seeing if the problem crosses over as that would indicate if its a head unit issue but I have no idea how to do that. I could just replace the Amp again as I have no idea of the history of the amp that i put in it last summer

Changing the channels from the stereo would do it. Go to my forum for converting HDD nav systems to DVD and download the radio pinouts. Identify the wire for the channel you're having problems with and another one that is good. Repin the two and see what you can hear. If the problem jumps, the problem lies in the stereo, if not, it's in the wiring to the stereo.

Always use caution and common sense when messing around with wires in your car or trying to do something that you are not a professional at. If you're concerned about this, take it to an audio shop.
