I got 158k RL changed oil at 156k.. always fine no problems..now all of a sudden smell and noise came after drivign 30 seconds away from home.. i turn around go home and turn off.. hood full of smoke.. source is a pipe under the timing belt.. any help appreciated thanks

Check your coolant and transmission levels. I know there are coolant lines and a few transmission lines down there( The transmission lines run into the bottom of the radiator.)

Is it on the driver's side of the engine or the passenger side? The transmission lines run on the driver's side. There are some heater hoses on the passenger side. You should be able to tell if it is coolant by the smell. If it does not smell like coolant it could be transmission fluid or you may have an oil leak. A small tranny or oil leak can really smoke a lot if the fluid is spraying on a hot exhaust pipe...

i see a coolant leak from top of rad.. will replace rad.. but the smoke was coming from driver side below rad from what looked liek a rusty pipe.. and it smelled like solder.. also the rad was FULL of coolant when i checked it and the res was empty.

then when i filled up EMPTY res tank with coolant, my car ran fine for 10 min, but coolant leaked from top of rad and no smoke came so i will replace rad and therm

rad only 2 yrs old, modine which i replaced. will get new part for free from NAPA if i find the invoice all i got is the amex bill and they know they ordered that same part on that day i paid but they are "unable" to locate my invoice and said i should have saved it, i wish they would cover my coolant costs and labor though.. bastards
