Passenger side O2 sensor removal?!

I got a question on how to remove the O2 sensor on the passenger side.
I rented the O2 socket set from AUTOZONE and after two hours I could not get it off. The space was so tight, I got the O2 socket onto the O2 sensor but I couldn't attach it to the extension wrench. It looks like i need to remove the white plastic cylinder with the yellow sticker which little tubes connected to it(sorry I don't know the name of it) Does anyone know how to remove the O2 sensor on the passenger side? BTW I sprayed WD40 on the old O2 sensor to help in the removal process, since I couldn't get it out now when the engine is hot, it smells like something is burning and little smoke coming out from the O2 sensor. Is it still safe to drive? Any helps would be great. Thx.

That white plastic thing with the yellow sticker is your abs modulator. I checked the service manual and it does not say anything about removing the abs modulator. It will most likely be a TIGHT squeeze. Maybe try using a swivel attachment for the ratchet.

I have a swivel ratchet the problem is I couldn't attach the extension to the O2 socket. The abs modulator prevented me from attaching the extension to the O2socket. With out the extension there is no way my swivel ratchet reach the O2 socket! Damn I guess I have to take it to the shop then. Do you know how much they usually charged to replace the O2 sensor.

I used a 6 inch extension, a swivel joint at the O2 sensor socket and a awful lot of PB Blaster. Good luck

Big problem! So i took my car to the shop and after an hour the mechanic guy told me he couldn't get the O2 sensor out He told me, I have one option is to cut the wire at the end of the O2 sensor so he could put the regular #22 socket over it. It will damages the thread but he said that is an easy fix is to drill out the hole. What i'm worrying about is, if he cuts the wire and still couldn't remove the O2, then what should I do? Would that just kill my engine? So what do you guys think, should I take the risk and let the mechanic do it?

BTW I did check the service manual and it doesn't show any hint how to remove the O2 sensor.

...if you cut the wires, you will get a engine check light, but the car should still run... the sensor is just to give the engine's computer info, so it can adjust its self to reduce emissions and maximize performance.

I have heard that it is a pain if the threads get striped and the person working on it does not use the proper type of set-up to make more groves for the new sensor...

once the mechanic gets on good grip on it... it will come out... I cut the crap out of my hand doing the one on my sisters accord...once it released, my hand flew into a sharp piece of metal under the car... paper towel and duct tape will hold you skin together for a while...

So how many can of PB Balsters did you used? I spared WD40 to it and there was smoke coming out from the O2 sensor while I was driving!

For real? But if he drill out the hole would that make the hole bigger then the new O2 sensor size? or I'm wrong.

Damn man I don't know what to do, my car is getting really bad mpg. cutting out the wire and drill out the hole sound too scary to me. I guess I need to spray an awful load of PB Blaster just like that guy mentioned.

Forgot to ask you what is the size for the swivel joint because I a swivel joint but it couldn't attach to the O2 sensor. Do you have the picture of both end of the swivel joint? I think is very helpful because I've been looking around for a swivel joint but none can attach to the O2 socket! Most of the swivel joints have only one end that attaches to the ratchet and the other end to the bolt. So how did you do it?
So you attached the ratchet>>>6in extension>>swivel joint>> O2 socket?

The question to ask, how did you know it was the O2 sensor that needed to be replaced? How many miles on the car? If the sensor has failed already, cutting the wire off the end of the sensor isn't going to change anything, it is already running rich. Worst scenario is that the O2 sensor is so stuck in the manifold, the manifold will have to come out of the car and be worked on the bench. I have seen them so stuck a "smoke wrench" will be needed to get it hot enough to get it loose.

96 RL with 165k on it. I got CEL and it gave me P0141 (Bank 1, sensor 2) hopefully it was the passenger side because today i sprayed a load of PB blaster to the O2 sensor and it won't come out I guess I have to take back to the shop again.

Sorry for the late response, been sick so that sucks but here is exactly what I used.
7/8 inch o2 sensor socket
6 inch standard extension
3 inch standard extension
a swivel joint with 2 pivot points.

As far as the PB blaster I sprayed enough on and let it soak, then sprayed it again and went to work.
Now I broke my first joint and that super sucked for my knuckles, so I bought another from Pep Boys and the second time was the charm. It came right out. when I put the news one in I greased the threads so they wouldnt lock again.
And also after about a day the pb blaster eventually burned off, a little annoying though. I hope that will help you and be patient.

I gave up on this man I spent 3 hours yesterday try to remove the O2 sensor. I sprayed a full can of PB blaster and wait for a few minutes and it won't moving a bit. It looks like someone weld the O2 sensor lol it was so stubborn and my back couldn't take it anymore. Hopeful the shop take it out!

WTF today I took my car to a different shop because the old shop was busy. The mechanic told me that I bought the wrong O2 Senosr! The old mechanic told me it was the O2 Sensor on the passenger side. Now the new mechanic told me it was the O2 sensor near the CAT. The code is P0141 Sensor heated circuit. So is it the O2 sensor on the passenger side or the one near the CAT area? Thx.

You have a great vantage if you remove the valve cover. I could get my fat hands down there with zero effort. Just have to remove a bunch of stuff first:-)
