New here... Just bought my '96 RL

I plan to go different route than I normally would. I needed a new DD since my last DD got overwhelmed. The hatch got too low and with all the construction out by my house now, I'm taking additional 15min detours to get everywhere...

So I got a call from my uncle about the RL that he has. It was hit on the driver's side and needs a new upper ball joint, fender, and headlight. Got 2 small issues besides that, but a full detail and a little PDR and she will turn out great.
I picked it up yesterday I won't make any performance changes except for maybe small stuff, intake and such, but otherwise I will get a set of wheels, lip kit, and a DECENT drop, not slammed.

This is what I would like for it to eventually be. And yes, the car is Black with Black leather interior. :bouncy:

Not a bad purchase for $300. Yes... Three Hundred.

$300! That is a deal. I have always like the 1G RL in black. If you need a fender let me know as I know a guy that has one. The headlights are tough to find. Check the recalls for the ball joint. I remember that there was one for the early RLs...

Thanks man, and I might take you up on the fender. I need that and I obviously want to get new headlights so they are matching, but whats the deal.. how much different are the 96-98 from the 99-04 headlights... Is it like they did on the 96-98/99-00 Civics or the 94-97/98-01 Integras where it is a whole face lift?

I believe that the headlights are totally different from 96 - 98 to the 99 - 03. The 96 - 98 had the fog lights built into the headlight assembly where the 99 onward had the fog lights lower on the front bumper. I use www.acuraoemparts.com to figure out what part fits what year RL. Some parts are for certain years and some fit all the years from 96 - 04.
On the 96 - 98, the driver side headlight is part number 33151-SZ3-A01. The dealer price is 495.05. For the 99 - 03, the headlight is part number 33151-SZ3-A02. I sold the headlights from my RL for $175 each plus shipping and the buyers were happy to find them. Given all the front end collisions, they are tough to find.
The front left fender for the 96 - 98 RL is part number 60261-SZ3-010ZZ with a list price of $437. My price would be $125 plus shipping. It is green. Before I send it, I'd send some pictures.... Payment is via paypal. I usually ship via UPS and have used greyhound freight for some larger parts... seamusnh@gmail.com

that fender should be the exact fender as the 2000 RL shouldn't it???
if so I'm extremely interested as I've unfortunately met the front end of a deer which seemed to hop away unscathed. If anyone has a set of headlights for the 2000 RL let me know...

Fenders are different between 96 - 98 and 99 - 04 RLs.

You'd have to the headlights to go with it.

Yeah, the fenders and headlights are different from 96 - 98 and 99 - 03. 99blackhatch's RL is a 1996 so the fender I have will fit. The headlights differ as well. Headlights are tough to find....

I use www.acuraoemparts.com to determine what parts fit what RL.

This is why I got on here to clarify, this car is just like the 96-00 Civic.

The entire front end is different between the 96-98 and the 99-00. Good thing I clarified otherwise, expensive mistakes.

The most noticeable difference is that the 96 - 98 had the fog lights integrated into the headlight while 99 onward had the fog lights in the bumper, low and to the sides.

UPDATE:

Ok, so over the past few weeks I've been collecting more and more pieces to get this car moving... literally.

  • New battery helped out a lot.
  • New driver's side brake caliper comes tomorrow
  • New driver's side rotor comes tomorrow
  • New driver's side fender
  • New driver's side upper fork
  • New driver's side JDM headlight for the driver's side... Great little Christmas gift, a PAIR would have looked better though. lol
  • Got the tires mounted on the TL wheels
  • Oil change since my uncle didn't stay on top of that
  • Automatic transmission flush
  • Fog lights are working
  • Swapped out the coil packs for the new ones

  • Needs to have the EGR valve cleaned or replaced
  • Needs a new hood
  • Needs the driver's side fender painted black and a lot of PDR work
  • Needs a new primary 02 sensor

Obviously it needs a bit of a drop. Working on that currently... considering the only setup built for this model RL is the JIC coil overs which are $2,000 without shipping from Japan.

Looking into using 96-98 Legend forks and then then TL suspension should work for me as well... We'll see what i decide to use here in a few months.
