I just bought a used Acura RL. Love the car. Do not love the fact that the salesmen sprung on me the news that there was only one key after I had signed. Turns out it costs $100 for a replacement key.

Is there a cheaper source and how much does this key really cost the dealer?

 

What year is the RL??? A '96-'04 key should run $25-$35 at the dealer. Some might charge to program the key also. An '05 or '06 key is a whole different beast...you don't even wanna go there!! Did you buy it at an Acura dealer or at a used car dealer (not Acura dealer)? If you got it from a used car dealer,go to an Acura dealer instead. You're better off.

It is a '98 in mint condition. I bought it at an Acura dealer. They are saying $100 for one programed key and $150 for two. FYI - they are also saying $150 for a second keyless remote.

 

Get on EBAY and search for the remote. Be sure that the FCC ID on the back of the remote you have matches the ID on the back of your remote. I just bought one for about $25 and it's easy to program by yourself. If there's another Acura dealer around check with them about the key because it sounds like your dealer is trying to shaft you pretty good.

 

Ya..that delaer is charging way too much!!! A key should be around $25-35 at the most. PM for more details if you want.

 

I just recently had the same issue. I went to the Acura dealer in my area and paid $25 for the key and $95 for the remote.
