Mp3 Changer?

Do the 1.5 gen Rl's support mp3 cds? This is one of the things few things i hate is that my cds can have only 20 songs. I was wondering if i could use a later model headunit, center console setup or if i could buy a different cd changer from best buy. Is it the headunit that has to be able to play mp3s or is it the cd changer itself. thanks

I don't know that much about audio, but I know that my '96 doesn't support MP3 cds and I believe that it is a combo of both reader and head unit in order to play them... I know that it has to be reader at the very least though..

Why dont you put an mp3 disc into the changer and see if it'll work? worse thing that can happen is the cd player wont recognize the format and not play it. it's not going to shatter or cause your ride to melt down or go emo or anything.

I own an 03 RL and i'm absolutely certain it wont play mp3 discs. The signs are obvious:
1) nowhere on the deck does it say it supports MP3s
2) nowhere on the cd changer says it supports MP3s
3) The LCD readout is extremely limited, if it did support MP3s it would have a ticker like readout that displays track names

I know that my car does not support mp3s. My question was do the 1.5 gens (1999-2004) support mp3, but you did just answer my question Vindi so thanks!

If i find a way to jury rig an AUX in without having to rip apart the deck i'll let you and everyone else know.

My friend, who owns an 03 TL that bastard..., said he saw something that connects to the CD changer instead of the deck that provides AUX in. Wires are going to have to be ran from the trunk to the driver's seat

Anyway when i find out what it is i'll post my findings and if the wallet agrees to it i'll take one for the team and post detailed instructions with pictures on installation if possible

This is from another board...

/forums/f40/how-aux-99-rl-ipod-mp3-players-etc-76610/

It says it only works for Non-Navi RL's. I'm skeptical, but haven't tried it on my '02 w/ Navi.

Do you have a full link instead of a sliced up one?

When you rip a song on to CD then it converts it to a music CD which our systems can play. Where as a MP3 cd is not a music cd and typically is a storage of multiple songs.

So when you say you can play MP3 cd, do you mean you have MP3 saved on cd (a cd can hold 100 or so MP3) or do you mean MP3 ripped to CD to make it a music cd(typically 12 - 18 songs).

Jimmay - My question was to 2000RL I undertstood your research is to get the MP3 capability aka 100 song cds, but it is better to spell it out as a lot of people get both Music CD and MP3 CD mixed up.

2000RL - Please let us know what kind of CD you are able to play. Incase it is an MP3 could you please post details of the Disc changer in the trunk.

My CD's were burned using music purchased online. I was unaware that in the process of burning the CD's on my computer that the MP3 format is converted to a different audio format allowing it to be played on sytems other than MP3 players. Sorry to have confused the issue sr4td.

A different CD changer that can read the MP3's themselves would fix this. Make sure its the CHANGER and not the headunit that would be doing the legwork.

Of course, you wont be able to get any new info about artist/title. You'll be stuck with "CD 1" and whatever track it is.

Just to make clean on what you said... It IS just the cd changer, and the stock headunit can be kept, but i will just loose the info on the songs? I can care less about that, but im getting sick of filling my cd changer, and still having less song than my friend who has a MP3 deck. Thanks Ken!!
