Making A RL go faster?

I recently parted with a C5 vette to but myself a 04 Acura RL. Now that I have done so I plan to work on my 99 RL to make it more distinctive. I don't want to do so much Bling Bling work, more go fast work. I have an awesome aftermarket shop that can do the work for me since I am much better working on my guns than my cars. I have a few Ideas I would like to do to the car. I kinda want it to be a wolf in sheep's clothing 250-300HP range works as long as it has torque as well. It has a few mods done to it I had done while I was Deployed. All it still has is a K&N filter & upgraded injectors now. I was just wondering if my idea was even possible.

I am looking to swap heads with a Legend as I have heard on here adds a few HP. Would I also want to keep my injectors with the swap, or use the Legend's? I am also looking to add a Weapon R intake w/ ram air. I am also looking for a muffler with a quiet idle that is just a little throatier at full throttle. Another add on I am looking into is Eibach lowering springs with a wider 17" or 18" rim&tire combo. Last but not least is brakes. Who makes decent aftermarked brakes?

Would I need a tranny upgrade after all of that?

I just downgraded my stereo from 5K to 2K watts. That much power just isn't safe. It really messed up my trunk as I stated in a previous thread.

Any Ideas or input on this? I know it will never be nearly as fast as my Vette was, but it is alot more reliable and compfy. I actually like it more.

I don't think many people have modded RLs for speed. I think you may be better off in the Legend forums where they use RL parts on the Legend block.

my friend you have started with the wrong vehicle if it's speed you want as far as with aftermarket parts & mods. go over to acura-legend.com, go to 2nd. gen legend forums, & sub forum engine performance & mods & you'll be wanting a legend real quick (i mean our rl's ARE 3rd gen legends, but you'll be better off with a 2nd gen 91-95 legend). nobody's beat a 12.9 1/4 mile, but for a 4 door luxury / performance sedan that's pretty darn fast!!!

Just a comment about th K&N filter. I used them in every vehicle I've owned, except my RL. This is because I talked to a mechanic that said, he has seen issues stem from oil blowing off the filter and gumming up the mass air flow sensor. He said it leads to all sorts of sensor issues and headaches. It was enough to change my mind. Just a thought. Good luck on tuning her man, like skwidstyle is saying upping the power in your RL is hard to do.

Yeah it's hard but worth it!Once these cars are rolling at 70mph they are a rocket! I took a Lexus GS400 from 80 until I braked at 130! I just need to figure out how to get more low end torque. That is the real downfall of the 3.5RL.

Extrude the manifold a bit. Also you can swap exhaust parts from a 2002 - 04 RL. Its a bit more free flowing.

Swapping Type I or II heads will not give you that. Plus the intake manifold will need to be widened because the C32 heads are a tad taller.

And about Dv8's Legend, it's 12.9 on spray. I want to beat that NA.

~Cheers~

I could be wrong about this, but I thought I read somewhere that the C35A makes peak torque at 2800 RPM, which is fairly low IMO. I'd say the real downfall of the 3.5RL is that it weighs 3700 lbs.

The RL makes good power up to 4000 rpms. And the '02 - '04 RL's weigh just under 3900 pounds...

sure - obx headers with modded y pipe & 2&1/2" piping all the way back (rest of exhaust custom also w/ b-pipe in replacement of your cat), webcam regrinds, cai, full lightweight pulley set (available with the combination of the crank from Telion & the alternator, tension & power steering from Labrat), type 2 intake manifold p&p'd or extrude honed, & a good tune should yield you a good 50 at the wheels. And a 40-60 shot of nitrous (properly installed setup) is not going to hurt your engine & will gain you another good 30-50 hp on top of the 50 or so with the above mentioned mods.
... & 3.5rlv-tec - so is it that you carry around a v-tec phone in your vehicle or have a VTEC engine???

Hey thx for the great mods list, but i think i'll pass on the nitrous. LOL the reason why it called 3.5RLv-tec becuase I smoked some v-tec on the street
I know street racing is bad. Some jack ass with v-tec keep honking at me on the street, so I decided to show him why its called 3.5RL

these motors handle nitrous very well. they have forged internals and dishes pistons and run good fuel pressure.

For the millionth time, there is NO fucking hyphen between the "V" and the "TEC" in VTEC!! Just because it's pronounced that way, doesn't mean it's spelled that way. I'm surprised people don't go around calling Mitsubishi's "My Vec". Oh, and the cordless phones are "V-Tech", possibly meaning "Versatile Technology", but that's just my guess.

~Cheers~

P.S. So you showed him why the car's called a 3.5RL by popping the hood and letting him take a seat on the plush and comfortable rear bench?

P.P.S. Hey Swift!

well let that me add that swift22 has a process for the 3.5 intake mani that should give you as good of results as the type2 intake mani p&p'd & also knows his stuff. and from what i've gathered our decently low compression of 9.6 & automatic valve adjustment allow for excellent handling of nitrous & other forms of FI without any or too many internal mods
