Have an 97 RL. Issue is the key will often not start the car on the first try. If I rotate the key all the way in the opposite direction and try it again it will work. Any help??

My 98 RL is doing this also. Acura/Honda only mechanic couldn't find anything wrong. Google told me that it might be happening because I was putting the key in and turning it too fast - before the chip in the key had a chance to "connect" with the security system.

Don't know if that's the answer or not, but it would explain why it starts normally the second time around.

I've been hesitating for about a full second once I put the key in before I turn it and haven't had the issue since.

The problem that you guys are describing is quite common. And what WalterJ said is exactly what it is. When you insert the key wait a second before you turn the key.

Me and a couple of other guys on another forum did some experimenting to see what caused this to happen and that was the solution..

Mine has been doing that for the two years i've had it. Been curious the whole time. Honda/Acura techs said its chasing a ghost.
