Key Replacements?

I am new to Acura...just purchased a beautiful 96 RL a few weeks ago, and I have a question. I purchased the car from a private owner, and he only had one key with remote. I looked in the owners manual under keys, and it says something about only being able to replace them if you have the special key code plate that came with your vehicle. Is this true? I don't have the original plate, and (what I inferred from the manual) I take it the keys are sort of hi-tech...so I'm assuming that you can't just go to the hardware store to get a duplicate...? If anyone knows anything about my predicament-- please help! I'm deathly afraid of losing my ONE key...rendering my car undrivable! Please help!

Expect to pay 40 to 80 bucks for the key replacement. A rip-off I know, but you dont have too many options.

Oh big help there Platikman!!! Are you always this helpful?

Jack, they sell blank keys on ebay. If you think the stealership price is too stiff, you can do a search for 96 RL blank keys and take it to a local locksmith and have them program it for $20-$30. You gotta call the locksmith first to make sure they will/can do it first though!

Haven't used them before but planning on it (got only one key with mine, too).
