Ignition Doesn't Start Car on first turn 00' RL

Ok, I have a 2000 RL. I have a couple of minor issues but this one seems a little mind boggling. When I go to start my car from time to time it doesn’t start. Then after I turn the ignition again it will start. I know its coming from the ignition but im not sure if it’s the key or something inside.

When I say it doesn’t start, the ignition seems like it isn’t registering me turning the key but I am. Is there anyone with a similar issue and a remedy to fix this? Thanks

This seems to be fairly common. The key recognition mechanism is just a bit slow. After you turn the switch to the 'on' position try waiting a couple of seconds before turning further to the 'start' position. I've been dealing with this for the past few years and it hasn't gotten any worse.

yea, its been going on for atleast a year now. it only happens from time to time so it just might be the delay in the key recognition. thanks. ill keep an eye on it.

I had the same problem, never did anything about it. Had the car for over 2 years, it only did it 1-2x a month.

Have the same problem too. Read that replacing Main Relay may fix it. Did so and problem still there.

Just FYI: I've had the 'failure to start if key turned too fast' problem for many years. It began getting noticeably worse over the past several days. Finally, yesterday the battery was nearly dead. This battery was in the car when I bought it in 2007 and looked at least a couple of years old then, so it has lasted a long time. I replaced the battery and now the 'failure to start if key turned too fast' problem is much less severe.

yea replace the battery, if that is not an option, then clean the battery post and terminal with a steel brush or steel wool and coke,

i have had this and random lil electrical problems before. out cars are very sensitive to even the slightest voltage drops, so sensitive that even a lil bit of that green corrosion between the battery post, and the battery terminal can have a greater than expected effect on our cars...

However, even with the new battery, the problem is still there. If I hurry to turn the key all the way, it will often fail to crank at all.

like i said, make sure the battery terminal is clean, ive had corrosion between the terminal and the post creating a 1v drop, and the car would do the same thing, and it would also cut all lights and radio whenever i pressed the brakes...

also make sure the + terminal and the - terminal are on tight and are making good contact, i had starting issues when the - terminal was loose even though it was still making good contact...

Same problem here. I had the local Acura dealer make me a new key (this was before I knew about the "wait three beeps"). The new key helped, but did not completely fix the problem. Went from several failed first attempts a week to maybe twice a month. I believe the best solution is what's already been stated... simply wait a few seconds after turning key (two clicks) and maintaining a good battery.
