Got an oil change and then WTF!

So yesterday I got an oil change at Midas, and this morning i was looking down at the oil drain plug, there was some blue thing around it. I'm not sure what is this blue silicon? or some thing around my drain plug. I hope they didn't screw up the thread I was in a hurry yesterday so i didn't check right after the oil change, man they better not mess up my car.

Are you sure it's not the drain plug gasket sticking out a bit? Why don't you call them and ask, or take the care back in?

I'm pretty sure it's not the gasket, it's too dark now so I have to check in the morning. I'll probably take the car back tomorrow and see what's up.

Obviously, you had to jack up the car to see the oil drain plug....then my question is....Why didn't you do it yourself? That's the risks you take when you take it to a independent shop to do an oil change. I just changed mine this past Sunday; spent 15 minutes on it and that was letting the oil drain for 5 minutes. Nothing beats the peace of mind knowing that you did it right, with the right filter, correct type and amount of oil.

I used to change my own oil but I'm lazy now, beside I don't feel safe working under the car without the proper jack lol.
Anyway, I took the car back to the shop and the mechanic told me it's just a sealant to prevent the oil from leaking.

Does that mean the mechanic told you he put a sealant on the oil drain plug? That should never be needed. I'd suspect he stripped the threads on the oil pan when installing the plug...

It's hard to find a place you can trust to work on your car. It's like all the jiffy lubes recommending flushes for hondas when it's clearly the f word in Honda land.

I work for the manufacturer, I have heard horror stories.

I wouldn't trust their "mechanics with my car. I know some shops will use some marking pen to mark part of the drain plug and pan to show that it hasn't been opened after they fill it.

Backyard mechanic > Midas, Jiffy Lube, etc.
