EGR valve install question???

I have a 98 RL with 97k miles. The check engine light is coming on every 50 miles or so for EGR valve insuffient input or something like that. I will clear the code and it will just come back on. So I bought another one and installed it but it is doing the same thing. Is there anything special you need to do when installing besides bolting it on, gasket, and plugging it in?? Thank you.

It is a pain in the ass actually. Depending on how clogged the EGR port is it could take a few hours.

My mom has a 2000 RL that needs a new EGR valve. Dealer wants upward towards $700 to replace. What will happen in the long run if this isn't fixed asap?

check my link above

Did you read the information at the post above? I suspect she doesn't need a new valve, but that it just needs to be cleaned well. Full instructions are included at the link I referenced.

I replaced mine myself. It didn't help at all. It was a 15 min install though. It needed to have the system cleaned and a port was clogged resulting in low pressure. It's fine now. The dealership charged about $50 to fix.

check that out i do believe your covered under an extended emissions warranty. Take it to Acura and let them fix it. It should be free.

i think its only 96 and 97. i wish it was for 98s because i have one and the same problem. i got a new egr valve which didn't fix it and the small pipe in the back was not clogged at all. my next try will be seafoam.
