Question Did the 98 RL base come pre wired for navi

Is the 98 RL base pre wired for Navigation even if it was not included? I have the center console with navi from a 98 but my RL is the base and wonder if it is even wroth trying to switch it out. I wonder if it is basically plug and play or if it will require extensive modifications. Any thoughts? Thanks!

I don't know much about the 1st Generation RL's but I can say with confidence that it will require quite a bit of modifications; it won't be a simple plug and play.

If you need a navigation system, you're much better off just going with a portable unit; they are much more updated compared to the '98 system which is now 10 years old...

One of the major problems is the the heating and AC controls are completely different from the base to the premium (navigation) models...

You could try to do a NAV setup using a new in dash Alpine, Eclipse, Pioneer, or Kenwood unit. Any decent sound shop should be able to do that for you. It would look way cleaner than a portable unit held on by a suction cup.

It is almost impossible to convert a non-navi RL to navi since you have to run hundreds of wires and configure them. I would strongly recommend to put a decent aftermarket 2-din in-dash navigation system, preferably Pioneer.

nothing is impossible, I had it done to my 99 TL. It will take some work but its not hard. Locating the parts will be the biggest problem and in the end it mightn ot be worth the time.

Did it to my 97 RL non/navi. Upgraded to 2002 factory navi. If you purchase the parts for the factory unit make sure you get atleast part of the wiring harness. Just requires a little extra effort

I have an idea....buy a tom tom.....cheaper and better in the long run because it only costs around 90 dollars to upgrade the maps...verses over 120 for a new dvd...plus the cost of the whole in dash set up. Just my two cents
