Cupholder light

Nothing major here, but my cupholder light is out on my 2000. The dealer is unsure of how to access it but thinks they may have to take apart the whole center console.

Is there an easier way to access this? If it's too much of a hassle, forget it.

Yes it sure does

I'm quite sure you'll need to remove parts of the center console.

To do so, unscrew your shift knob. Carefully pry the black plastic that surrounds the shifter. Use a flathead screwdriver with cloth around it. Once thats removed, there should be bolts that can be visible. You'll have to figure it out from there, since I've never replaced the light.

Remember these are averages, and the

They still get quite frequent short showers but for the last few years they have not been as regular

Unscrew shift knob, pry up black surround with your finger nails gently, the remove the wood paneling that has your ash tray and surrounds the shifter which is held in by just clips if I remember correctly, then you need to remove the little tray thing which should be two screw in the front and 3 clips that attach to the bottom of the cup holder slide out, once thats done you should be able to pull it out and see the light attached to it. Just go easy and DONT FORCE anything.

Thanks for the DIY; and welcome to Acurazine

I'm not gonna touch this though. I had the dealer replace my headunit with a new one and in the process they broke the wood surrounding the nav and the headunit; they ordered a new surround for $900. I don't wanna risk this.

If I get it fixed, the dealer will risk it so I don't have to eat the cost.

They broke it??

I've torn apart that whole console, so I speak from experience.. they probably didn't know what they're doing. Its a tough piece to break.

There are SIX bolts holding it in, the service manual only shows four... they probably tried to pry it out not realizing it

Was this at Dick Hannah?

...maybe...

If I remember correctly, they did this while re-installing the piece; they called embarassed the day it was supposed to be picked up, and they rushed the piece next day.

They handled it well, at least.
