Alarm keeps going off randomly

I can't figure out what's going on here... I came home from work, locked the car, went inside... 20 minutes later I hear a car alarm.. .and it's mine.

Nobody around, I unlock it with the FOB, and 10 minutes later the alarm is going off again!!

I turn it off again with the fob, hit the unlock button twice... sure enough 10 minutes later it goes off again.

I'm sitting here waiting for it to go off again... tried opening and closing the door and hope that'll keep it from happening again...

What the heck could this be??

I'm hella confused!

I recall a movie with Audrey Hepburn where that was part of a scam. Thieves would trigger the alarm and hide. Owner comes out to check, finds nothing, goes back inside. This repeats about 4 times, at which point the owner gets frustrated and disables the alarm. Then the thieves make off with the goods.

Or it could just be a squirrel.

No squirrel and no theives... it only happens when I lock it and leave it. If I go out and open / close a door, it won't go off again. But if I unlock it with the FOB, it will go off.

Easy fix ... been there ..... There is a cable/switch attached to hood which triggers alarm from wearing out (opening/closing hood) find it .... disconnect it and problem fixed.

I'd say not problem fixed. That's a band-aid solution. If you actually want the problem fixed and everything to work as designed, things need more troubleshooting. Every problem can't just be ignored or covered up by disconnecting terminals.

I've learned to just lock it with the doorlock and not the keyfob. Keeps it locked, but the alarm doesn't go off. I'm not exactly worried about people stealing my $20 sunglasses in my low crime area...

It's likely the hood latch sensor. I had the same problem on my RL.

Clean or replace your horn connectors. Clean or replace your rear tail lights connectors. Clean or replace your brake light pedal connector. I had the same problem and once I cleaned all the scum and moisture build up the problem was fixed. The sunroof may be leaking replace the rubber around the glass.
