2002 - Blown Engine
Some background; bought my 3.5RL used in 2007 after doing some research on the RL's. One of my neighbor's in Columbus OH had a white 2000 that looked incredible and he always said it was an amazing car. Moved to Chicago in late 06 and decided to look around. Found a Black/Black RL: 47K no Nav but in great shape. Car did me no wrong and I took it in for service on schedule for the year and a half I have had it. Took it in two weeks ago for a 67,500 service before I rolled out for a vacation. Got a call from the service advisor that the head gaskets were blown. Unbelievable for this car right? I couldn't even believe what I was hearing.
Got on the horn with Acura care and the thing has no warranty (even though previous owner had certified). After three hours of story telling about how I take care of the thing and what happened (I took it in for a freaking oil change) they said they'd get back to me the following week regarding goodwill consideration.
I authorized tear down and had them do the timing belt/water pump since the engine was torn apart as it was. Acura agreed to a 50/50 split on the head gasket repairs which softened the $3k repair. End of the day my wallet is lighter and I still don't think an engine should be blowing at 67k, much less a Honda/Acura product. They also did an SRS sensor fix under warranty and a loaner for the two weeks it was out of commission. Glad to have my car back, happy that I didn't have to pay for a full repair, and disappointed that it happened at all.

I never heard that before, this is a first.
So would the bill have been $3,000 total and you paid half? Or, did your cost end up being 3k?
If you only had to pay $1500, that's not bad considering the tb and WP.
