Angry Front shocks 1st Gen RL

I bought a used 2000 RL with 97,500 in April of 2011. I took it in for an alignment today (108,500) and the front shocks seem to have seized. It is like driving an air suspension car with no air.

Some how when they raised the front end for the alignment the valving in the shocks seems to have stopped working. it was normal as I drove to the shop.

You can hear the fluids going through the valve as you raise or lower the front end with a jack, but when you try to bounce the front end, there is simply no give to the front suspension.

Both sides are acting the same which the mechanic at the alignment shop thinks is unusual for both sides to fail simultaneously in the same way.

They are suggesting that I replace the rear shocks as well, as they may fail in a like manner.

Does anyone have any ideas about this?

i believe there was a service bulletin about this. Something fails internally with the shock. I forgot what else the bulletin says, but if they are original, youre probably due to have them changed anyway.

Talked to the dealer today, they said this has happened once before with them and they've heard of that happening once or twice before.

I am going to have the shocks replaced. The mechanic is going to cut the shock apart to see what went wrong will post results later...

That is bizarre...

I hope it's a simple fix.

There was a thread that someone post about this exact problem. Happens to old and worn stock struts!

Silver 3.5 is correct. We cut 1 of the shocks open and there were small orange brown particles in the bottom. Thank all for your responces.
