2000 acura RL Nav
2000 acura RL Nav
Hi there, I'm new too this site so bare with me if I sound like a total idiot. But my question is, I have a 2000 acura RL without Nav and was wondering if anyone could tell me if I got the nav and AC unit as well as the wood grain peice that houses it all (don't know what it's called) if it would be possible to switch them out as easy as a couple of wire changes if not what would I have to do in order to get that screen in there. Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance.
You'll need the entire navigation system, including the 'brain' and GPS antenna. Wiring goes to the trunk and back.
So find a wrecked RL with Navi out there and do the swap. It's a lot of work and you're better off IMO going aftermarket.

Hi, I actually converted my non navigation car into having it. If you have about 4-5 hours of time it's definitely doable.
But first, a bit of history. I had a 98 RL with navigation until about 2 years ago when someone decided to crash into me. We didn't have collision on it, so we got to keep the vehicle.
We got a replacement car which was also a 98 RL but the premium model! So now I have fancy seat heaters, traction control, and a super high tech cd changer in the trunk! Anyway, this replacement car did not have navigation. And the lady we bought it from let he damn kid grow up in the car. So leather was torn, carpet stained, etc. Thankfully, the only ruined parts on my car, for the interior, were the dashboard and the right interior door panels. I REALLY wanted to get my navigation system into the new car. And so I had to take out the wiring harness for it and all the equipment. Also, I had to make a mounting bracket in the trunk for the nav computer because the non nav ones don't have it. The navigation system totally works now, as well as the a/c.
If this is something you are seriously considering, let me know and I will help. I'll provide more information on it if you want, I just didn't get into the knitty-gritty, because you may not even go for this.
But, in my opinion, stock rocks, I don't like a lot of aftermarket stuff, especially the ones that glow different colors and shit, haha.
Let me know! Oh and welcome!

Thanks Earl! yeah i definitely like the look of all stock too. I dont feel the need to add a different amp or sub or change the speakers cause the stock bose one is honestly good enough for me. just wanted to give the interior a bit of a face lift ya know?. And would probably be much cheaper for me to put that in rather then paying a customs shop to make me a dash kit for the aftermarket deck. I'm not very experienced electronics wise in cars so im a little scared ill mess something up by doing the nav system my self.
If you do not find a car with complete navi system like Earl, you will have to build the harness and source plugs yourself.
Most junkyards will not take out the harness for you and will just give you pigtails if that.
Doable, but a lot of work if you do not find a navi car you can pull everything out from.
