Shifter cable replacement / maintenance

The gear selector on my 2007 RDX (168k) is a bit stiff (it works, just not smooth and fluid).

From everything I'm reading online and the service manual, it appears either the shifter cable should be replaced, and / or the control lever and shift cable bracket / end just need some TLC (cleaning, lubrication, etc).

Curious if anyone here has done this before and has any tips, etc. Service manual instructions says you gotta get the car on a lift (ugh), wondering if anyone here has found a better / easier solution without needing a lift.
