Shifter not aligned with indicator
Shifter not aligned with indicator
Picked up my new CBP Tech a few weeks ago. Notice that the gear shifter does not align with the indicators on the panel next to it. So when I shift into D, it visually looks like it's on N. Of course the dashboard display shows the gear correctly.
Anyone else notice this? Perhaps its something service can fix easily?

i'm glad to hear others noticed this (i thought it was just me). i remember when i first took a test drive (& for the first week or so); having to constantly check the dashboard to be sure i was in the right position. now it is second nature. i don't look at the gear shifter at all & focus only to the dash.
I will have to look closer at mine -- I can tell you I was having hard time getting into the right gears at first. Now I just go by feel and the number of detents, or look at the dash. Wouldn't be surprised if mine is out of whack too.

well i never noticed cause im so used to going my clicks... but i mean the stem is fat and its slanted.. so it really cant be THAT aligned, as long as the indicator light is right, cuz when i saw the title i thought the light didnt match the gear you were on HAHa
I figured it out
The lever by itself is not a good indicator because of the range of angles and the boot. However, if you look at the chrome ring at the base of the knob, it has a small arrow mark on it. That seems to align with the position indicator perfectly in each gear detent. It's kind of a dumb way to do it (you have to visually eyeball it to see the aim) but that is obviously how the designers intended it to work. I have been wondering what that little mark was for all along....

during my week with it my wife and I both noticed it. after a while I just could feel the right amount of clicks. but yeah it really does throw you off.
BTW I've tested hundreds of cars and this isn't the first one that has this problem but for the life of me I can't remember the last one that did.

lol... i just checked out my car and its the boot that throws it off... if u squeeze the boot in, u can see that the stem is pretty aligned... but that arrow on the chrome ring is realllly accurate... from a standard driving position just looking at it
