Key Fob Replacement 2007
Key Fob Replacement 2007
I have a few keys for my RDX, but Im wondering if I need to replace one of them down the road, is it only recommended to get an official Acura key fob? Reason I ask is I got an Amazon key fob that uses a different key metal, and I was warned that that key would easily get stuck in the ignition. Sure enough it did. It was real work to try and remove it. Is the actual Acura key the only one that uses the recommended metal key material that wont get stuck? They usually run for around $60 US dollars for an Acura one.
If only the remote is bad and the key is ok, you may be able to get a new remote and transfer the key over. I haven't taken apart the switchblade remote that the RDX has, so I can't speak on the feasibility of that. I've only done it for my wife's Fit. I can transfer the key and immobilizer chip to the new unit, and the remote itself (lock/unlock) can be programmed to the car without dealership help (again, for the Fit - not sure if RDX is the same but it is a Honda of the same time period so you may want to do some digging).
This process is the same as what I did for the Fit, so hopefully it will work. If you attempt this just be 100% sure to not lose the immobilizer chip from your old remote. You cannot program that to the car on your own, and it will not start if you don't have it in the new fob.
