I think my altinator is dying...
I have a 2007 Acura RDX tech with almost 180,400 miles on it...
Latly, I've not icicles it's been starting slowly sometimes, by latly, I mean occasionally within the last two or so weeks...
Friday night, it started really slowly one time, it scares me when it first that thought it hasn't failed to start... Until tonight...
Well, I got it started after it cranked and chugged and stalled twice, no engine block clicking yet, it wast that week, I got it started on the third attempt...
Since I bought it in February, I've had several intermittent lights (well, words) display on the MID screen such as:
Check SH-AWD System, Check Emmisions, Check Engine
Navigation Disc Will Not Read (something like that last month)
Check TPMS System (I think a battery may be going dead in one of the wheels, but I'm not so sure on that)
The back up camera was also grainy and not showing properly one time about two months ago...
I think there was a few other things as well I can't remember right now...
All of these went away after shutting off and re-starting except the Check SH-AWD, Check Emissions, Check Engine to come up on the display, that would go off after showing up all night, or the next day too, but that's been three months now...
I want to include that tonight I was listening to the radio for about ten minutes as I was waiting on someone, I also checked the headlights for a minute (trying to find out if they work off the key since they're not automatic) that also ran down the battery a bit, but that's it, nothing too hard on the battery at all...
Let me include:
When it was on the lot before it got it, it was parked for two or three weeks without being started, and it started fine, I've driven it every single day...
It has a new battery, 9/2014 or 9/2015, I can't remember, but I think it's from 2015...
Anyway, I hope I can make it until I have my oil change next Wednesday, I'll have the Honda dealer check it then...
But still, am I on the right track?
After I got it started, I drove it up and back down my street really fast, 2/3 throttle, 0-30 mph, then sat and revved it to 2,000 rpm for thirty seconds or so, then a few punches to 3,500 rpm...
I then moved it to its parking spot where it sat for 45 seconds to let Mr.Turbo cool down...
The A/C is set to off, and the interior a lights are off so it can be driven this morning...
Ok, please express your thoughts...
Thank you, I'd appreciate anything anyone has to say...

I'm trying to see if these symptoms my vehicle has exhibited can relate to those of an altinator that is in the early stages of failure...
That being said, I will not be able to do anything until Wednesday, I'll be busy until then will not be amble to get to a store before it closes...
Thank you for your suggestion though...

Maybe it could be the starter just dragging and it hasn't completely gone just yet...
It's been fine all day today...
I hope this RDX isn't like Toyotas, I cannot tell you how many batteries my Canry has been through between 2008-2014, about six or seven maybe? And a relitives Lexus that keeps going dead, both have proporly functioning altinators...
Looks like this will be an expensive week for the RDX...

Check the basics first, check make sure the battery cables are clean and tight. Then I would get the battery tested. If you own a voltmeter check the voltage of the battery, it should be 12.6v after sitting overnight. The alternator charges the battery, so of you have been driving more than a hour you most likely do not have a bad alternator as the reserve of the battery is probably close to 90 or 120 minutes. It is possible your Alternator is intermittent, but most likely the alternator light would be on.

I had a free test done on Wednesday, they said the altinator, battery, and starter are all good...
The cables are clean, tight, and perfect!!!
The battery is a new Interstate battery from 9/2015!!!
It will start slow if I sit parked with the radio on for ten minutes so I haven't been turning off the engine latly, so my fuel cost will keep going up then...
It's been fine since, but I'm still a little concerned...
Thank you for commenting however!!!
Sounds more like the starter going out, that can be tested but you would have to remove it from the car to be tested. In general if the alternator is going it will make a weird noise for a couple of days and you can usually smell an elecical smell too. Good luck, hopefully it stays working.

It's not that easy on a Honda K-Series as they always crank slowly, but that makes since...
I'll have to bring it in one day...

Think that might be why it had a hard time starting last weekend after I had the radio going for 15 minutes? Maybe that "extra charge" wore off and the dragging of the starter is using every bit of the battery's strength...
Ok, I hope it's something simple like that... Time to pick up a cheap broom to keep in the trunk!!!
