engine knocks on turns

My engine knocks loudly when I turn either right or left from a standing start. It's been doing this for some months. My husband took the car in to the Acura dealer in NY City in May, and they said we had to be sure to put only high-test gas in the car, which we have been doing ever since. No change in the knocking! Since the sound is only when I accelerate and turn, someone suggested that it has to do with the wheels somehow and warned me that something terrible could happen. I don't believe it, as the sound has endured at least six months and not gotten better or worse. Any suggestions? I am in Maine, a state with no Acura dealers (believe it or not) until mid-September.

Could it be a broken motor mount?

#1 What are you driving? RDX would just retard the timing to prevent the knock.
Sounds like a CV (constant-velocity) joint in need of replacing.

so if the car is ONLY making noise when you are turning right or left from a standing start I would check front end ( upper, lower ball joint, control arm, drive axle, tie rod ends, and rack and pinion)
Because if you some how got some cheap gas in the car it would knock anytime anywhere (that's if you got really bad gas like there is water in them)

The car is an RDX. The noise is ONLY when turning after a stop. I'm going to mention your suggestions to a mechanic.

I don't know what a CV (constant velocity) joint is.

are you sure its the engine generating the knocking noise?

I had a very similar problem which started when I would turn the car from a stop, or if the car changed directions, this worsened over time to a constant knocking. Turned out, its the sway bars and linkage that had to be replaced. This could be confused as a knocking sound coming from a different area, just depends on how you hear it. Get the suspension checked if you havent already.

CV joint(s) connect the axle to engine and wheel providing the drive motion. There is a boot that covers them for protection from dirt, debris, and water. If the boot becomes torn dirt enters the joint and wears on the bearing until it starts to break (make noise). Common first symptom is clicking/thump noise when turning. Any qualified mechanic should easily spot this issue when the car is off the ground on the hoist as It is very visible. these are typically robust parts that can take years of abuse before they fail, unless the boot is torn. If the boot is torn the damage can occur rather abruptly and it is usually best to replace the entire axle.
