"Check Now - Check Later"

What is the deal with this passenger airbag deal?

Is there anyway to stop this from happening. Everytime I put anything on the empty passenger seat, I get this "warning".

It's getting old.............................

You know I am not sure how to shut off this feature. It is very annoying and I notice it a few times every week as well. Than when you try to delete it it takes a few seconds and locks up on me if I go to fast. Maybe there will be a software update to be able to turn this message notification off soon. That would be cool. Also I will look into the nav setup.

Since it is a safety feature designed to protect children specifically, don't hold your breath on a way to disable this feature.

So what's the difference between selection of "Check Now" and "Check Later"?

I found this on the TL, but nothing similar on the RDX

Weight sensors are incorporated in the front passenger seat to determine the total weight on that seat. If it is less than 65 pounds (as if occupied by a small child or car seat) the front airbag will not deploy and a warning message appears on the instrument panel. For the driver, a position sensor in the seat determines how the airbag will be deployed in the event of a frontal collision. If the seat is close to its forwardmost position, the front airbag is designed to deploy in the dual-stage mode. Otherwise, the airbag deploys in either single or dual-stage mode based on the severity of the collision and seat belt use.

Oh, and for some humor, I also found Acura's official description of the statistical us.
RDX targets young professionals that are upwardly mobile, work hard and play hard too. The typical buyer enjoys playing a sport, lives in the city, and on the weekends often travels to the mountains, country or coast. This customer wants an emotional and stylish vehicle that offers a higher "eye-point" (driving position) and more cargo flexibility than a sedan - but with the style, handling and performance of a great sports sedan. Thus, the transformable utility of the RDX - along with its engaging performance and handling - is a perfect fit.

That pretty muched pegged me, except for the upwardly mobile part. I have seen my boss' job and decided that's NOT for me. I am now sideways mobile.

I do think they take liberty with the notion of "utility". Yeah the RDX has utility compared to a sedan, but compared to wagons and other CUVs, it is lacking. Maybe they really are pitching to the former sedan buyer.

lol! I've been sideways for 10 years now. I guess now's not the time to try climbing ladders should I fall off with a nice fat loan strapped to my back!

I think you're right, with the utility notion. They went out on a limb with that one. Not sure I'll be towing a boat behind the RDX unless it's a rowboat. If utility was a goal where's the stock racks?

or the gun rack!

I actually bought it with the goal in mind of being able to take day trips to the mountains to hike or bike. So the extra cargo room was a major consideration. Not to mention, there have been times when we see a piece of furniture we want but are unable to get it home (or the time I decided to have the old wheels on my Z polished) because it wouldn't fit in the sedan. I have to say I think the reason I bought this thing is because it has more usable cargo space.

And there haven't been any young upwardly mobile people since the old dot-com days...lol.

Is 47 considered young? What happened to the annoying sensor discussion? I asked the dealer about it and he said theres nothing he can do. Mine goes off if anything like a newspaper is placed on the seat. Real annoying. First you got to click on the disclaimer, than you have to click on the check later thing, a real design flaw. Would keeping the seatbelt clicked help?

I wish the RDX had about 8-10" longer cargo length (for my skis), the roof rack as standard equipment (at least the side rails), and that the rear seats folded flat in one step without filling the rear footwells. Then it would have equivalent utility to my old Outback wagon. I am working around these shortcomings without a big problem, but I do miss the slightly more usable setup of the Outback (knew I would). On the other hand, the driving dynamics and comfort of the RDX are top notch. It's always a tradeoff I suppose. I just find it ironic that my previous "car" (wagon) had more utility and was better off-road than my new "CUV".

i doubt a seatbelt clipped in would help, it would still recognize the weight on the seat. the sensor is designed to determine the weight of the passenger, thus if the seatbelt was clicked and it shut off it would be useless anyway
