Blown engine at 7,000 miles
Blown engine at 7,000 miles
My RDX started leaking oil last week and making a noise like an old washing machine. No error codes or warning lights. Performance was the same (very good). I bought it back in April 07 and have 7300 miles on it.
I took it in to the dealer and they found the main pulley on the engine crankshaft was put on wrong and it was hitting the oil pan and causing an oil leak. The shaft coming out of the engine was bent, so they are replacing the lower block. ETA is about one week or so.
They gave me another RDX as a loner until mine is fixed. Everything is under warranty (including the loner). Mine was a 07 and the loner is an 08. The only differences are the seat memory, rear view mirror and the polarizing filter on map display is rotated 90 deg. My polarized sunglasses can see my display, but not the new one.
My dealer so far has been very good. I'll report back when I get the car back for a final report card.
The dealer said that they thought the pulley had hit something when the motor was being installed at the factory.

Sorry to hear about that, but at least Acura is taking care of you and not weaseling out of anything.
I thought the most fascinating part of your post was the thing about the polarizer on the nav screen being 90° rotated from 2007 to 2008. How did that change make it into the manufacturing process, and who thought it was a good idea?! It almost sounds recall-worthy, except that the cost to Acura would be enormous.

Got the car back (follow up to original post)
Well, they kept it for a week. Got it back and it drives just like the 08 loaner they gave me. The only glitches were,
1. Since it has a new lower block and all new fluids, they did not reset the oil life indicator. It was still at 50%. I reset it.
2. I got a warning from the computer about the emissions system. I went back to the dealer the next day and they found a kinked hose from the vapor recovery system. The fix took about 10min and I was on my way.
My receipt had a long list of parts and listed the loaner. Total cost to me was $0, everything was warranty.
The dealer is Valencia Acura in Valencia, CA. Very good dealership. I recommend them highly.
