2008 RDX Switchblade Key - Buttons not Working

One of my two keys works.. the other doesn't. I replaced the battery CR1616 twice and still nothing. What are my options?

Thanks

I guess get a new key but from what I understand the dealer has to program it and if they do be sure to bring all your keys for the process.

I have never taken apart my RDX key, but I have completely disassembled my Chevy keys (various models).

The Chevy buttons have a fluted carbon-looking back (contact) that touches a metal pad (contact) inside, on the 'computer' board. What happens is that moisture, dirt, and simple wear eventually causes the 'electrical-conntection' (carbon=>metal) to break-down.

You can sort of check for this without disassembly, by pressing a bit harder than normal on the non-functioning button. If it works, even just part of the time, there is your problem. I would bet that the non-working key is the one you use the most often (most wear).

Anyway, disassemble. Remove the battery. Clean with a Q-tip and 91% rubbing alcohol. If you are really careful, you can use denatured alchohol (WalMart), which is good for removing dirt and grease. But do *not* get it into any of the electricals.

CAUTIONS: liquid will short out any electricals - which is why you remove the battery. Alcohol will evaporate quickly, but wait an hour after cleaning, and try not to get it anywhere except directly on the button contacts. Rub firmly, but not too hard. And careful, the Q-tip fibers can also cause a short in the electricals, if any get inside the electronics.

And sorry, I cannot provide any directions for disassembly of the RDX key-box. Perhaps someone can provide info from the FSM, I do not have my camera handy, but can look later if no-one else replies.

Last comment: if dropped or immersed in water, the key may be damaged permanently.

If the LED on the key fob lights up when the buttons are pushed, then the fob is most likely fine.

Sounds like it's not paired with the car.
