resonator
resonator
Has anyone tried just removing the resonator? Im wondering if it would make any difference in the sound of the exhaust. My guess would be no, but I would like to had a tiny bit more sound on hard acceleration.
I deleted my resonator a few months ago and it does help out with the exhaust note a little bit. Cabin noise is up (it's not a bad sound), the sound is a bit more throaty in it's character and does make some really nice sounds when you are behind the car. Performance wise, it has helped the turbo spool up a little bit sooner, in the slightest of ways. The fuel economy I have observed after doing the delete has also improved even with me being a little heavier on the throttle (there is a sweet spot where the exhaust just sounds fantastic). All in all, I found it to be an easy and inexpensive mod that has helped get spice things up with the car since i have problems with getting bored with cars very easily. I say if you are considering doing it, just go ahead and do it.

I have done it and don't recommend doing it. It's there to eliminate engine drone, especially at low, cruising RPMs. I started to get annoyed from the drone on trips with friends. It made the music harder to hear.
There is a slight increase in throatiness at WOT without it. I didn't notice that the turbo spooled up quicker compared to getting a downpipe, which was very noticable.
If you're going to do it all you need is a 2.25" straight pipe (aluminized steel is cheap). Simple cut and weld job. Reduces weight too.

So I went out and got a piece of 2.25" pipe flared on both sides. I was about to cut out my resonator when I noticed that the incoming pipe looks like 2.25" but the outlet looks more like 2". Im I right, or are my eyes playing tricks on me?

I love the low deep tone of my 3"inch with cat delete. For me, I only get that deep low tone when under boost in high gears. It sounds like stock or close to it under normal driving, for me at least.
