Lightbulb Hondata Flash Pro

So today I was feeling a bit left out in the cold…. and attempted to write a persuasive letter to the Hondata team.

Am I the only one who feels genuinely frustrated that we have decent list of bolt-ons at our fingertips, with no real way to cash in on their potential… meaning no ECM/U Tuner. ???

I assume that I am not the only one…, which is why I'm reaching out to everyone here on the Acurazine / RDX forum to write a professional & persuasive Email to help nudge or sway the team over at Hondata into investing some more time on developing a RDX specific Flash Pro.

This would enable each RDX to have a custom Tune, even with a completely stock setup.

If anyone is interested, shoot your persuasive write up's to: (sales@hondata.com)

Or if you know a better contact email for Hondata, let us know.

Ill also be posting the Email which I composed for a reference.

IF WE DONT SHOW A GENUINE INTEREST, WHY WOULD THE PEOPLE OVER AT HONDATA??????!!!!!!!!?????

ALSO* IF YOU DO CONTACT HONDATA REGARDING THIS, BE SURE TO LET US KNOW ON HERE THAT YOU DID SO.

My persuasive letter

"Hi my name is Vincent Aprea, I know your time is valuable so ill try make it as short and sweet as possible.

It would be a great leap in the tuner community if you guys could assist in the production of a type of piggyback system or / tuner gateway module for the First Gen. Acura RDX.

I know its a SUV, weighing in at over 4k.

But the turbo K20Z3 has massive potential waiting to be unleash and hundreds possibly even thousands of owners are grounded by the reality that all that mods in the world are basically worthless without the proper ECM/U Tune. I feel this reality also plays a significant role in why people won't / haven't been swapping this engine into other Honda / Acura cars.

This is why I am turning to you and your team, for a helping hand in this matter. I know once Hondata takes on a project, it won't be half-assed. You guys are the gold standard in the Honda tuning industry and it would be groundbreaking for you and your team to take this unique project on board.

I can assure you that you won't regret helping, from a business stand, and publicity stand.

I can also assure you that driving a SH-AWD RDX is a load of fun even stock, and the RDX is the foundation of the sport SUV within the tuner market.; & still frequently overlooked.

I don't know what your company needs to get the ball rolling on a project like this, but just like I have called on you for your help; feel free to ask for my / (our) help as a community.

Im sure it is not free Testing and Developing a product of this nature, which is why I'm personally willing to conger up any support you require to get the project in the works…. Money, donor car, publicity, or group buy committal.

Im committed to contribute as much effort, time, and cash thats needed to help your team - within reason.

Please respond, even if its a definite NO.

I appreciate your time,

Vincent Aprea"

I already sent them an email regarding the Flash Pro and I didnt get a response, that seems to be the way they like to do business. Anyway I cooled off and just ordered the Reflash from them last week and im pleased with the upgrade, however I have an Intercooler and Exhaust on order and I know a K-Pro tune/Flash-Pro would get more power under the hood with those mods so my ears are always open for a company who wants to support the RDX.

Our K23a1 surely can handle a consistent amount of boost across the rpm band. I'm thinking 16lbs were the drop off is from Hondata re-flash, If they could keep that amount cross the board, I think we'll pick up considerable amount of HP.

Cant say i don't agree, but wouldn't you rather be able to have a local shop use the Hondata tune as the foundation for building a custom DYNO tune for your specific modifications / bolt ons.

& also @ Ken how is it having the stock Cats gutted rather then a custom down pipe & cat delete / mid pipe cat delete.

Pretty good actually, that was the first thing I did to my RDX and it showed signs of big power gain. You really can't tell it is modified unless you step on it, behaves well. Stock cat gutted with stock mid pipe to 3inch custom exhaust.

I would also be very interested in a tuner module or whatever you all have planned. I have been saving money for a while now and am hesitant to spend it on the Hondata Reflash out of fear I won't feel a difference. I am hoping for somewhere around 280hp/300 torque at the crank and maybe high 5s 0-60 and low 14s 1/4 mile.

Matthewk323, I was thinking the same thing. I just got my Hondata reflash about a month ago, and holy shit!! It pull so hard, in sport mode of course! Trust me, you will feel every bit of extra boost they added. But, for me there was a down side. I WANT MORE POWER NOW!

I did get a CEL. The cat by the turbo was gutted, and the cat down below was eliminated with the 3" exhaust piping. I'm in the works of having a shop diagnose and fix the CEL. (crossing my fingers)

Beast mode is right, wtf kind of intake is that.. custom?

Everything looks great my friend, can I get a sound clip? You mentioned that it sounded like a Zr1 when your started.!?! I Deleted the 2nd cat today, took a ride with the exhaust dumping out the first cat…. it sounded like a race-car.

It's the JDM Password chamber intake made for the Honda Fit. I will try to get a sounds clip tomorrow from a cold start.

The fix for the CEL is to buy 1 90 degree bend from ebay, 2 spark plug foulers and heavy duty aluminum foil our CAT media if you have already gutted your mid pipe. First, you drill out one fouler just enough the fit the o2 sensor. Second, you put the cram the heavy duty foil/cat media between the two foulers and screw them together as tight as possible. Third, you cram the 90 degree bend with as much foil/cat media as possible and screw the fouler into the bend. Lastly, screw this setup into the o2 bung on the DP then screw the o2 sensor into the open end of the spark plug fouler. The last part takes serious manipulation and a very cold engine as you will need to loosen the DP to install this into the o2 bung without knocking into anything.

The idea here is to get as much cat media/foil between the o2 sensor and the exhaust and pull the o2 sensor as far away from the exhaust flow as possible.

I did this same thing about after alot of trial and error; no CEL after 2000 plus miles.

Hope this helps.

No Flashpro

I work at an authorized Hondata dealer in Colorado and I've talked to Hondata and they have no plans for a FlashPro or K-Pro system for the RDX. The reflash is the only option that's available, or will ever be available.
