Generic RDX Questions

hello all! Still trying to figure out how to respond to these things on the mobile version of AcuraZine, but I’ll get there eventually… I had a couple questions regarding my 2011 RDX, and I probably asked the same question or a variation of the same question and a couple other threads that I’ve made, but I guess I haven’t been asking the question in the correct way…

1). I’ve read up that the first generation RDX is built on the CRV chassis of the same year model… So in theory, could I find CRV lowering springs/coilovers that are at a lower price than finding RDX parts? All of the parts that I am looking for are super expensive, and I just wanted to see if I could apply the “Acura = fancy Honda” logic and apply the same parts?

2). I’ve been debating on whether to buy the full K and N typhoon intake or just the K & N air filter for my 2011… I’ve read up that the air filter pretty much does the same thing as the full intake system, but doesn’t give as much power in it costs a fourth of what the intake does, but again, the intake was meant to increase power as much as it can while, not throwing any codes up on the dash.

Thank you guys for being such an awesome community of people… Y’all have been nothing but helpful and very kind. I’m very new to this stuff and I want to build something different and unique than everything else out there, but it’s kind of difficult when parts are not easily traceable/gotten extremely rare because the manufacturer has gone out of business.

Again, thank you all for taking time out of your day to respond to my thread and to help out a new owner! I am still figuring out how to reply to you guys on the mobile version of the website, so a thumbs up is all you’re gonna get right now and so I can figure out how to respond😂!

Hey mine's a 2011 too.

Answers to your questions:

1. The 1G RDX is based on the CRV of the same generation - including the K24 engine block - but there are many, many parts which aren't shared between the two. You need to take it on a case-by-case basis.

For example, I've noticed that the 2007-2013 CRV happens to use the same front swaybar links - but the front lower control arms and CV axles are unique and not shared by other Hondas. The lower ball joints on the control arms seem to be the same as the 07-13 CRV and also the 16-21 HRV.

I recently replaced the PCV valve on my RDX, which seems to be the same part that the CRV takes.

But very noteworthy is that most other Hondas call for 0W-20 engine oil - the RDX is unique in taking 5W-30. However both the RDX, CRV, and HRV use the same rear diff fluid (Honda Dual Pump II).

In short - always double check and don't assume.

2. The K&N typhoon intake assy will give the engine more air than just the stock airbox with a K&N filter, but the latter will be much more quiet. Depends if you're looking to hear the turbo and bypass valve more. But the typhoon has a MAF sensor in it so you won't get any codes by installing it.

I bet you could get a deal on the typhoon thru Heeltoe if they still carry them.
