Replace Reverse Lights on '09 RDX

Hi all,

Greetings from Minneapolis, where the snow is falling like there's no tomorrow! I just bought up a new-to-me 2009 RDX AWD Base and loving it! Since buying it last week, I've changed the oil/filter, changed brake fluid, done the rear differential, and replaced a sticky mirror actuator.

The last thing on my list is to replace one of the reverse light bulbs that is burned out. I looked on the forum, but couldn't find any posts on this specifically. Since it is on the tailgate, I'm assuming I need to pop off the cover on the inside of the trunk lid to access the bulb.

Does anyone have any instructions on the best way to get this cover off?

Thanks all!

Open up your rear hatch... Look to each side of the panel inside the back side of the hatch... Directly behind the inner tail lights, there is a service access panel, squeeze the clip from nearest the center of the vehicle (on both sides), then pull the panel towards the outter side of the car... Find the reverse light, size 7440, then replace... It should be the bulb with a gray socket, closest to the licence plate...

I was greatful as hell to se Acura added those service access panels, makes for a 1 min job...

Best of luck!

You’ll need a plastic pry tool or a flat head screw driver to pop out the service panels on the tailgate. Twist the bulb sockets and pop out the bulbs.

Yeah, you're right!

It's such a cool feature I'm suprised no one ever talks about it... On my sisters Pathfinder, I had to pull the entire panel off to change plate lights to LED, and the power lift gate kept going up and down...

Just replaced my back up bulbs last month with some much brighter LED bulbs since my vision is getting worse as I get older. The brighter bulbs really made things brighter in my backup camera.

It took all of 5 minutes to change both bulbs.
