EBC Brakes - noise

I installed 3gd rotors and yellow ebc pads this past week. I also installed the rotora front and rear braided lines while I was at it.
All seems good and the brakes work great, unfortunately, there's a significant noise coming from the wheels at speed. It's hard to explain, but it sounds like the locusts you can hear in the evening.
I was wondering if it might be the shims installed incorrectly. The stock pads had 2 shims on the inner pad and one on the outer pad. The EBC pads appear to come with 1 shim permanentaly affixed to the pads so I didn't reinstall the outer factory shim and added the 1 additional shim on the inner pad.
Anyone else have a similar experience or any ideas on what to check?
The noise goes away upon applying the brakes and is quite noticeable when driving above 5-10 mph with the windows open - especially when driving by the road dividers or under bridges where the sound can echo back.
Any help appreciated!

+1 ^^

I put slotted/dimpled rotors on my Accord and it made this noise. The rotors and pads were both EBC.

Yes, dimpled and slotted.
Yikes, I hope not, this is pretty loud, enough that I think others I pass on the road or in the parking garage will think something is wrong with my car. I did expect this when braking and it does, when I brake, you can hear the swooshing noise - but I didn't expect to be able to hear it over the wind and tire noise at 60mph.
Just to confirm, did you hear the noise to this degree?

I'm not 100% sure on the "swooshing" noise...but I was able to hear the "locusts" noise when I was driving next to a median, wall, or curb. If I drove in the middle lane on a 3-lane highway...I wouldn't hear the noise (I'm assuming because there was nothing for the sound to bounce off of back at me.

Ah yes, the 3GD rotors do make that wind noise. It's like you can hear the wind pass by each dimple/slot. It goes away when applying the brakes but then you get that whooshing sound.

It drove me crazy at first but I am getting used to mine as the noise gets drowned out pretty easily. Looks great but I'll be going for the silent "dashed" USR rotors next time.

I have the black-dash USR rotors on my GTI and they are much quieter than dimpled-slotted -- they make a low, rushing hum when applied -- not very noticable with windows up and not annoying with windows down.

ps, there is information about 3GD rotor noise on EBC's web-site.

Yeah the USR rotors and red stuff pads are good enough for me... dont know if the drilled rotors would make that much of a difference and the wind noise isnt worth it imo.
