Voume Level When Playing CDs

I can usually listen to any music source (AM/FM/XM or iPod via Musiclink) at a volume of 15 or less, and it is plenty loud. The exception is playing any CD in the head unit... I have to turn it up to 40 (max level) and it is barely audible. Anyone else have this issue? Is there a setting I'm missing? I have the Tech model...

A standard audio CD? No, I don't have this problem. In fact, CDs are actually louder than any other source for me...

Never a problem with volume level on CD's or DVD-A's.

For me, ipod, CD, DVD-A, XM are all loud and AM/FM are slightly lower.

If your CDs are "barely audible" at 40, you definitely have a problem. You have one of the older RDXs so maybe you have the solder problem in your headunit. I recommend you take all the discs out of your headunit ASAP, and get it to the dealer. If you want to listen to CDs in the headunit before that, use copies of discs or be prepared to lose them for a while if your headunit goes belly up.

When my wife and I were test driving one for the first time (demo model,) it had exactly the same problem. In fact, when I asked to hear the DVD-A, we had to listen to the RDX on display in the showroom.

I'd be real interested to know what the cause is. I think I went through every option on the radio, trying to figure it out for the salesman--no go.

Thanks for the responses everyone. Yes, the CD's are standard audio, and this was the first time I tried a CD since I bought the car in October 2006. I typically listen to the other audio sources, especailly iPod. I was hoping the headunit would not be bad, but looks like this may be the case. I'll have the dealer check it out with my next service. Since it's not an urgent issue, I'm not going to the delaer just for this...

I had a defective unit, The DVD player died. after they replaced the unit, I noticed an incredible difference in the how loud I could play my music. You probably have a defective unit too. It was my only problem so far, and no big deal getting it swapped out
