Types of cd's ELS unit will play..

Ok. Here's a noobe question, b/c my '08 has the tech package. I looked it the search area, manual & couldn't find the answer.
I thought that I'd read that you could play SACD's in this unit. I tried some sacd's I had that were new, (NEVER PLAYED) in the cd player. It said "check disk' on one of them, the other one said "eject disk"? I know it plays DVD-a's regular cd's, etc.,but not sacd's? Someone know about this & thanks in advance.....

The RDX ELS system doses NOT read SACDs. It reads regular CDs, data CDs containing MP3s, and DVD-As. You do not have to 'put' it in any specific mode. The drive will determine the type of disk inserted and read it appropriately (provided it is encoded properly).

Thanks... I went reading about types & formats & when I came across the story that SACD were in compatition to the DVD-A's format, I was pretty sure they wouldn't play in the Acura ELS system! Oh well.... have to buy some more DVD-A's!

Good luck. It's a dead format and they are disappearing fast...

yea, i know. I just had several sacd's & wanted to hear them through my ELS in the RDX. I'll just save them for the home theater sound system! (Yes, I have a DVD player that plays them!)

Also plays DTS-CDs. They're not a normally found format, but just tested one in my 2007 TL-S (ELS), and it showed up on the screen with a "DTS" logo. Pink Floyd the wall sounded sick... Was surprised they play back. Boo on SACD, had the same issue. Gotta find a source for DVD-A's, as DTS-CDs are rare to come across.

This is a little off topic. Do you know a good on-line store to purchase DVD-A disk for the ELS system? I've tried Amazon, Best Buy, and a few others and the selection is extremely limited or not in stock. Looking for more for R&B, Soul, and Pop DVD-A disks.

I just want to purchase one disk to hear ELS in the RDX.

^ It is very difficult to find DVD-A formatted music. If you do find something you like on e-bay, chances are it will be ridiculously overpriced. And then what will you do with it when you sell your car? You might as well just throw your money in the street, the format is dead. (See: Sony Betamax) SAVE YOUR MONEY

well if you have ELS, it is not a waste. It is wonderful!

Ebay
CD Universe

You can find good prices too. I haven't paid more than $18 for any and NOTHING sounds as good as DVD-A

XIS - I'm assuming if you take a DVD-A disc and upload to your iTunes that it will automatically compress the file taking away the wonderful ELS quality correct? The only to get true quality is to listen from the CD?

not sure if you can do this?

You need a dvd-a player to play DVD-A discs, and you need it hooked to the computer so your iPod can copy

So yes, I think you need the DVD-A in the ELS player to benefit.

DVD-Audio files

Hi,

If someone tried to burn DVD-A disks with FLAC/WAV files?
I want to know how many of those files can be burned into one DVD disk using 6 different disk's group.

Thanks.

NewbieNew, I would think it would depend on bit rate/depth of your source files.

DVD-A is a great format. But they are getting harder to find. And I have Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon in SACD... sure wish I could convert it to DVD-A to listen in the RDX.

In my home system, I have to adjust the subwoofer up by about +8db. In Dolby and DTS encoded soundtracks, the .1 channel is boosted. But I cannot find a way in the RDX to boost the .1 channel only for a specific source.
