info, then top left does it say cellphone book? u click that, then as long as a phone is connected via handsfree link - there should be an option to import the address book?
thats exactly how to do it in the Accord Nav.

Page 265 of the manual starts talking about the phonebook. At no point does it mention the ability to import names contacts from a phone automatically so I don't believe this feature exists. You can only enter them manually.

Acura is QUICKLY losing interest from me.
I'd say there is a 99% chance my next vehicle will be from ANOTHER auto maker.
Fucking retarded that my 07TL with Nav had this option by my fucking 09 RDX with Nav doesn't! Aren't things suppose to IMPROVE when you buy a newer car..especially two years newer with nearly a 40k pricetag!!

bgillette79 - They may have researched that this functionality wasn't being utilized in the first place so why bother continue using it. All the people I know that have Acura's do not use this feature.
But I agree with you. Seems odd that Acura would take a feature away even if it wasn't utilized a majority of the time.

That feature makes 100% sense with bluetooth technology, and in all honesty how much effort/software technology does it really take?
And do you really think Acura researched that? If they are doing research they sure as hell are not listening to ANYTHING else people are saying. Especially around the internet forums where all us owners post our thoughts and opinions.

Clearly they are going the wrong direction.
1. The beak. Seriously...it is ugly as sin.
2. The amount of plastic on their cars now. Instead of nice chrome accents or quality painted plastics, they are using the ugly dull greys that look more kia like than acura.
3. To use LESS technology in an 09 Navigation than in an 07 Navi is absurd.
4. Their unwillingness to improve their cars to the level they claim they are trying to get to. Don't use your name with Infiniti, BMW, Benz and Lexus if you are going to be more online with nissans, hondas and toyotas in terms of quality and performance.
In summary the name Acura used to mean something...it used to be mean you were a step above the Hondas and Toyotas in terms of luxury and performance.
In the past 3 years I just don't think they are keeping far enough distance from those brands. When the Honda Accord Navi is better than the RDX navi...we have a problem!

In general I have the same overall feeling that Acura is missing the boat when it comes to these nice convenience features that other car manufacturers have. As an example, my son’s Ford Fusion plays much nicer w/ Bluetooth and USB.
I have a 2010 w/ Nav and yes you can down load your address book automatically, but it seems you can’t really use it for much. For instance once downloaded, you still can’t use it for the hands free calling feature. For that you have to manually add each and every contact you want to be on the hands free calling list. I want all my contacts to be available for voice dialing just the way they are when I use my Bluetooth head set. Also I want to be able to find a contact on my phone list and just press a button to send the address to the Navi. BTW, the RDX doesn’t seem to pass the address from the phone to the car’s system.
I may be doing something wrong or still just don’t understand this not so user friendly system.

I guess I'm one of few customers who just doesn't see a total advantage to having my entire phone book in my car. I've basically taken the top 10 numbers I use and set them up in HFL so all I have to say is "Call Home" or "Call XYZ" and it automatically starts dialing. I can understand that some of you are upset that you have to manually enter the numbers but realistically how many are you really using? The RDX does what I need it to and that's why I bought it.

My guess is that this lack of functionality was a conscious decision by Acura. In their SUV line, the MDX is the higher line model and has the functionality I believe you are talking about...specifically:
"On all models with the navigation system, up to 50 names with one number per name can be stored with voice tags in the system's Voice Tag Phonebook. For users with large phonebooks in their mobile phone memory, the available navigation system, working in conjunction with Bluetooth® HandsFreeLink®, can import up to 1000 names with 10 phone numbers per name. Up to six different compatible mobile phones can be paired with the Bluetooth® HandsFreeLink® system at one time. Additional information can be found at www.acura.com/handsfreelink or www.handsfreelink.com."
Acura tends to dumb down lower models. Here is another example of dumbing down the lower model...the tilt down on reverse for the outside mirror only works on the passenger side, and not also on the driver side. The "higher" line models such as the MDX, ZDX, TL and RL have mirror tilt down on reverse selectable for either driver or passenger side.

I would much rather see the HFL work like a bluetooth headset, allowing me to use the hands free dialing built into my phone, not the car. That way, no matter what phone is connected, no matter how large your phonebook, and no matter how many numbers you have for a person, you could use voice dialing.

The manufacture/sub-contractor of the system is different and the feature is not supported.
Did you look at/test-drive the car before you bought it?

I had to rent a Ford Fusion a few months ago. Its nav system and bluetooth was far above Acura's. The Bluetooth downloaded immediately, and, if I recall correctly, recognized/converted voice to name.
I never tried to input data into the nav system, but I'll bet it was better. The Acura's high-priced Nav add-on is inferior to much cheaper products. Shame!
I still love my RDX, but it's a pretty primitive tech package. Beats my tech in my 99 passat though.

Phonebook
I do believe that only iPhones allow you to upload your entire phonebook at once. But that is only with certain systems, unless Acura has come up with an update recently to do it. But i know for a fact that Ford Sync will allow you to upload your iPhone address book

What a disappointment!
I was hoping that one of you guys had figured away around the silly-ness of the HFL. Or that Acura would provide an upgrade to it , so that it would work the way many of the cars on the road for the last decade have been working.
Any takers????

The original plans called for a hard drive on the RDX and an iPod link in the glove box. It never got installed. My guess is to cut the costs. Shame.

Are we defining a cars over all performance by its ability to connect to a phone and download the contacts??? I have a 07 RDX fully loaded TEK PKG. Dont get me wrong, I agree that the "TEK PKG" in the RDX is primitive. But there are more features I like than I dont like. Just for example, I Havent raced a Lexus RX, BMW X3 3.0, Audi Q5, Mercedes GLK, Infinity EX or FX35, even the reg Porsche truck (not the Turbo nor the S) That I did not smoke. Im not even touching on Acuras awesome safety ratings. I agree there is room for improvement, But that is true for all car makers, Not just Acura. C'Mon guys, Lets not be so hard on the RDX...

I upgraded to an RDX from a 98 Chevy Malibu wherein the "tech" package consisted of the multiple wiring harnesses that coupled the Dodge radio I found at a Goodwill into the existing Delco system and the copious amount of pencil graphite on the climate control circuit traces to try to keep the A/C on with some consistency.
Yeah, I'll take my RDX's "shortcomings" any day. ;-)
