most dealers can add a DEALER INSTALLED remote start... its not factory, cuz they use other companys stuff... but just programed into the stock remote... which stocks cuz the range is terrible.... ionno bout u, but for me, i literally have to stand 10 feet away to unlock doors.....

Man, I wish I had a remote start for my dog sled.

Don't forget, we Canadians get shafted with a higher markup price (approx $39,000 US for the tech), higher freight charge, no XM radio, and no real-time traffic in the nav.....aaand 14% tax here in Ontario. Now that I think of it, they should've thrown in the remote start for free with the tech package!

Hahaha, but the decision for the markup and to keep all those goodies out probably came from some Acura bigwig in the States. Probably jealous of our free health-care

(and I'm just joking for those who might feel inclined to start a CAN vs US flame war)

Nowhere near as bad as NYC or L.A. but probably on par with Chicago and Boston.

C'mon, think about it, only two or three people can fit on the dogsled and then six to eight dogs to pull each sled. We're talking pure mayhem.

What I like to do during rush hour is pack a few steaks and throw 'em on the side of the highway. That way all the other dogs/sleds go scrambling for them and the lanes open up like the Red Sea.

Who's Actually Installed the Acura Remote Starter?

Based on the comments on this thread - who has actually installed the Acura Remote Starter? I put one in my RDX and over the total of 2 days that I have owned the car, it has to be one of the most pathetic accessories I have ever seen. I knew that the range would only be 100 m (328 ft) but you literally have to be standing 1.5 m (5 ft) from the car to start it; which kind of defeats the purpose of the starter.

If anyone else has the Acura Remote starter, are you having the same experience? I am wondering if I can take it back to the dealer and have it taken out?

They don't even offer the Acura Remote Starter in the US. I wonder if they are test marketing it in Canada. I know it is illegal in Virginia to have your car running unattended which would make remote starters illegal here, but of course that doesn't stop people from having them installed anyway.

so u have the dealer one installed right? that programs onto ur oem remote? yea thats gotta suck... the oem range is retarded

i got an aftermarket one installed... range isnt half bad but it does the job when im park outside my house or a block or 2 away

if ur interested... here are the specs that u need to wire in a aftermarket remote start

If we want this feature, it will have to be aftermarket. Will that require carrying around two remotes since the key is built in? Or can the Acura remote be programmed to do the remote start functionality? Are there some brands that integrate better with Acura than others?
check with dealer..u might void the warranty!

2009 Acura remote starter

I have picked-up my new black 2009 RDX Tech 4 days ago. I've added the Acura winter package (remote starter, block heater and rubber mats).

It's been delivered with four remotes : 2 with the key and 2 for the remote starter.

The range is good, you can request 10 or 20 minutes of engine running time. It is bi-directional so you get a confirmation that the car has started or not. A few annoying things : the engine turns off as soon as you unlock a door (remotely or with the key). You cannot start the car remotely more than once per 20 minutes. The seat memory always return to "Driver 2" whatever remote I use to get in the car. (I've now programmed my profile on position 2...)

The remote starter control is very nice with a small LCD screen with status. I'm gonna have extra keys cut because the two remotes together are quite cumbersome to carry (the "regular" with key plus remote start...two boxes)

I have a picture of the remote but cannot figure how to include it here !? I will gladly post it once I find out how

I installed Viper 5902 today it took me about 4 hours.
It work great. I think is better then factory remote starter.
I can still lock and unlock with factory remote.
Plus my friend at the dealer made me master key out of valet key.
I just carry 5902 remote with master valet key.
Paid 350.00 for Viper 5902 plus 20 bucks for wires connector from radio shack.

I'm looking at picking up an 08+ RDX as the memory seat functions are really important to me (due to size differences between me and the wife). Littleblazer, after installing the starter, did you retain your memory seat functions?

I'm worried that if they need to use a transponder bypass to start the car, the ECU would obtain the code from the key that was used to code it, and that the other key memory setting will not work. Any insight?

Cheers!

I think I found some info here:

https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-audio-bluetooth-electronics-navigation-94/viper-alarm-remote-start-696630/

For anyone who has the Standalone Hondata ECU and an 08+, do you lose memory seat/key fob capability? I'm thinking of buying a standalone when I get my RDX so I can take it into the dealer with the stock ECU during servicing.

Thanks!

Hey guys, can you help me out? I want to buy a remote starter for my bf's '08 RDX, but I'm not sure what to get. Is the viper 5902 better than the one from acura? can someone tell me the pro's and con's? I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks!!

have to carry 2 remote if you choose Fatory remote.
With factory remote you have to use key to open the door to get in when engine is running with remote starter.
I have no problem with my viper 5902. I carry Valet key with the 5902. Plus I have the cut my master key to valet key.
Pro. Longer range 2 way remote, Color screen,
Con. None.......
Good Luck

Only thing you need installing Viper 5902 PKH34 key override good thing about this you don't need key.
It took me 3 1/2 hours to install this system. Yes it will be hard if you don't know the wire colors. need 4 diode for the door trigger.

Getting a Remote Starter

Hey, do any of you have remmendations on aftermarket remote starters? Also, should I go with a local electronic vendor, or still with the big box installers?

If the '09 RDXs have an option w/ the remote start, are Acura dealerships able to do the same with an '07 RDX?

08 RDX Remote Start

Anyone have a good solution? I'd like to only have the one keyfob that does it all. I noticed the 2009 and onward come with a remote start as an option and wondered if they can retrofit to the 08. I have a Python 1601 system in my Prelude that i can have the installer move to the RDX as a last option.

Dealer said the 09 remote start option can't be retrofitted to the 08 which stinks. It looks like a third party option will have to do.

It'd be nice to have just the one compact remote, but the Acura system is a very good one IMO. The two way communication feature, as well as the ability to program the heater and defog to your own requirements is a nice touch. The overall range too is excellent IMO.

Hey all,

I'm moving from sunny California to Icy cold Waterloo Canada. My wife is terrified of the cold so I wanted to install the 5902 for her. I hear people mentioning some diodes were required for the install. What kind of diode do I need? how many ohmz/ watts?

Littleblazer,

How did you manage to wire the car up without needing to disarm the car before remote starting it?

Anyone know roughly how much the RDX remote start (the Honda accessory one, not an aftermarket model) is likely to cost installed? I see it's listed as $362 on Acura's website, how much have people been quoted for it installed? $500? $750? Not interested in aftermarket, but if I could get the Honda part for ~$500 or so, might want that. RDX would have to be parked outside, not kicking out my wife's car or the S2000...

I want OEM to avoid any warranty/reliability concerns, and because I don't want to have to find a reputable installer among all the idiots out there in the field. And I really don't want to do it myself.
