RDX Tech Nav DVD Player

Hi all,

As you know, with a tech RDX, there is a DVD player that runs the Navigation system. Not the CD/DVD-A Player, but a second DVD player below the dashboard.

Does anyone know if this Navigation DVD player and Operating System can be modified temporarily to play movie DVD's ?

Just asking...

Thanks.

MGS

there are a couple mods to play movies on the nav screen, but none to use the nav dvd unit to play the dvd. It doesn't have the right software to handle dvd video since it is built for a specific function.

The only two I know of are the G-Net NavVideo, formerly called Nav2TV2Go or something like that and modifying the backup camera feed to connet a video source instead of the backup camera, but you'd lose the backup camera functionality.

Any of these mods are going to yield the same results because the screen is the reason for the low resolution. But as I said before, if you are using it to watch movies, then the resolution may be fine for you. It just didn't cut it for a carputer.

Has anyone tried replacing the nav screen with a higher res monitor? Since it's not a touch screen is there any downside to replacing it?

I would be more concerned with warranty implications. If you replaced the screen you'd have to rewire the factory harness., plus you'd probably have to make some fabrication mods to the dash. Maybe towards the end of the warranty I'd think about doing something like that.

Not sure what the result would be if you put an 800x600 mointor or better in there. It may make all the maps and screens really small since they were all made for a 480x234 resolution screen.

If you'd like to try it, I can send you the instructions for removing the factory screen.....
