My system install-got pics

I finished my system install today (with the help of a good friend and installer). to sum it up I replaced all stock speakers. The sub is now a Kicker 8" 300w 2ohm shallow mount (fit perfectly in stock sub housing), Infinity 300w 2 ohm Reference 61/2 coax rear (had to make new mounting holes, but fit perfectly) and Infinity Kaapa 61/2 componant 300W in front (Mids need new mounting holes but fit perfectly, tweeters need mod--removed stock mounts and glued to the infinitys). The tweeter change is the only thing you can visibly see without opening my spare tire well.

I added a 6 channel line output converter and connected to stock amp in the console (under shifter). I used a kicker 4age install kit and ran the power wire through an existing firewall hole, under carper, along the driver's side door , up into the plastic by the rear seats and into the spare tire compartment. In the spare tire compartment I removed the spare and created a soundboard for mounting amps. The power cable goes to a distribution block which cuts it to 2 8ga wires that go to the amps. Each amp has a ground wire that connects to a ground distribution to make it a singe then is grounded to a bolt in the panel by the sub. I used an infinity reference 600w 2ohm 4 channel amp to power the front/rear and a cobolt 500W mono 2ohm amp for the sub.

Go to my album under my profile/name and you can see the pictures that I did take (its hard to keep remembering to try and take pics when your working). It sounds awesome, loud, clear, and I can thump the base. And it is very unnoticable/hidden. Only down side is losing the spare, but in about 26 years of driving, i have never needed it before (knock on wood).

Nice...

Which line converter did you use? I'm assuming that it has the ability to mix the oem amp outputs to have a separate output for the L & R correct?

How hard does your bass hit now

I actually ended up using an MTX ReQ5 (see link) http://www.reqsound.com/ since it has 5 channels and it's speciailty is enhancing the base channel. Cost $150 bucks. And you are correct it you can mix it up l/r. It's a pretty cool looking device, but unfortunately it's hidden so i'll never see it, just know its there. I was a little suprised because believe me, you don't need a couple of 12" subs with a 1200w amp to pound bass, this little 8" kicker sub and my 500w amp can pound some base! I am very happy that while i had panels up I put some dynomat in spots where I thought it was exposed (acura does have some stock sound/dust covering of connectors, etc. in the door panels) or else I would be rattling some shit loose.

Actually yes, it is so faint that it doesn't bother me, it almost sounds like the speaker is "running"

I checked it again today, it is very faint, can't really hear it with motor running. When it is off, it just sounds like the speakers are being powered with the volume off

The factory amp is normally the source of noise...discovered after amplifying that source. You should be able to bypass it and just run the line driver to your amps. But you may lose processing if it's in the amp and not the HU.

I've often considered dropping back to a shallow mount for the deck rather than the 2 12's I got now...but I DO love the volume of air they move and I don't think you can duplicate that feeling with a smaller one. Wish you were local...you might change my mind and I'd be able to reclaim my trunk!

I am sure you push alot of air with the 12s. Alot of it is probably the music you listen to, for me it's more modern rock, classic rock, metal, etc. If you are more into rap/funk/hip hop I am sure your setup sounds killer. I was just suprised that with the 8" shallow mount I can definately feel it pushing some air, I really wasn't expecting it to give a nice thump like it does. But you also have to remember the mids are pushing alot more base than those crappy stock speakers did as well, so thats helping enhance it also.

Oh, for sure. And yes sir...you are correct...I go thru phases...I listen to almost everything at any given moment, but lately it's hip hop. Definitely dig the loud bass...but i have a feeling I'm getting to an age where I can deal with a little less and a more practical trunk! lol.

Hope you enjoy it!
