Garmin Nuvi Non-Windshield Attachment

I recently purchased a Garmin Nuvi and noted that you cannot use the windshield mount in California. Garmin supplies a sticker which you place on the dash and the suction cup attaches to the sticker.

I do not like this option as the sticker is very difficult to remove and I do not think it will stick well on the RDX's textured dash. Are you aware of any other options to hold the Nuvi?

Had the same problem with the Garmin StreetPilot c330. I'm not using it in my RDX since it is a Tech. I use it for business travel in rentals, particularly in D.C., Boston and NY. I'm looking on line into a sandbag type of base you can place anywhere on your dash or console. See the following link

garmin beanbag mount

Check it out.

Don't worry about using the suction cup in CA. I've seen hundreds of people driving around with all kinds of things suctioned to their windshield. I've seen a lot of those massive NavMan or Magellan GPSs that block the whole window.

I stick a Garmin i5 to my windshield all the time and just put as far towards the base of the windshield as I can. A cop isn't likely to stop you for that alone... assuming he could even notice it in the first place. And if someone does question you, just say you bought it used and didn't know. What's the worst that can happen?

I think the worst that could happen is the windshield mounted GPS can impair your view out the front of the car and you won't see the small child walking in front of your car...

Apparently the 48 states that don't ban windshield mounts don't think they are so bad. Maybe the children are larger in those states?

I think I found the solution at www.proclipusa.com

I trust no one has that many gadgets attached to their car...

Looks like a suction cup mount solution. Not sure how well this would work on the mottled RDX dash and other surfaces. Anyone try this yet on their RDX other than on the windshield?

You might be able to try this.
http://www.kudausa.com/kuda_mount_an...007-1-471.html

I use something similair in my wife's cooper. We have a 660. It is not have direct vertical view out of the roof, but with the SIRF chipsets in them it still works fine. Took a little longer to find the satellites the first time I had it there, but no problems since...

Thumbs up

www.proclipusa.com is the perfect, albeit expensive solution. I have this on my Mazdaspeed3 and I ordered one for mother's upcoming 07 RDX.

Basically it's a 2 piece solution, one that mounts to your dash (removable but stable) and another that screws into the first one and attaches your device. For my Garmin Nuvi 350, the second piece is the ball joint mount -- exactly the same as all the Garmin mount products. No messing with suction cups here!

No, I don't work for proclip, I'm just really satisfied with their product. I say "expensive" before because each part of the mount is listed at $29.99.... x2.... +shipping.

I plan to run the power behind the dash like last time for a clean, hardwired solution.
