Any Tips on BT Pairing? Or, That Lady in the Dash Hates Me

The first day I got my RDX I tried to set up the BT with my Moto L6 (predecessor to L2) which does have BT. I got as far in the voice commands as setting the password and all that, then I forgot how to make my phone discoverable, so I decided I'd come back when I had my phone's manual handy.

So I've since tried this again a few times and that little lady in the dash is now uncooperative when I say, "Phone setup." She keeps giving me all kinds of crazy options from just "Setup" where it goes to the normal setup like when you press that button next to the nav screen; or that bitty will sometimes say "Temperature" or some crazy shiat like that. She is slowly, painfully annoying me.

I was wondering if anyone had any tips on getting into this first phone menu. And if it's possible to get in there manually via the screen and buttons instead of using voice commands. (I looked in my books but couldn't find anything there.) I have the hvac off, radio off, etc. Engine is running quietly. No other noise in the area, windows up, etc. I've even tried "disguising" my voice, doing celebrity impressions (You should hear my Schwarzenegger!), etc., and still I get unintended results. Should I bring her some flowers and lay them on the dash or what? My sanity and I say thanks in advance for any tips!

No, all the HFL functions are controlled through audio commands (except for volume control of the voice prompts or phone calls).

Get your manual and quickstart guide and make sure that you are saying the correct commands. Most of the time when the car goes goofy on me, its because I'm not saying the commands correctly. High fan speeds definitely hurt the quality of recognition, but it seems like you've got that covered. Perhaps you are speaking too soon after pressing the button. Just a shot in the dark here.

Sounds like you are not pressing the Phone HFL button on the steering wheel, but the NAV button. That is why you are getting the NAV responses.

Are you pressing the HFL button and waiting for the beep, then saying Phone Setup?

ahahah yah you're not pushing the right button!!!

I did the same thing. Took me a day to figure it out lol. I would say "phone setup" and it would reply with a "fan speed seven".

I was about the kick the car when i realized there was two sets of buttons

Anyone tried swearing at the nav system? I tried "F*** you" and it consistently says "Audio off" and turns off the radio like it is refusing to talk to me anymore. I wonder if it is coincidence or some engineer has a sense of humor.

Good thing there's not a "full speed ahead" command. -- you knuckleheads would have been in for a real surprise!

That's why I didn't get a Tech; last thing I need is a car that is smarter than me....

I have tried saying to HFL "call sh!thead" and it wants to call my sister-in-law. I told her this and even had her listen to the HFL to hear for herself. She laughed And no, that is not how I entered her name in the HFL.

That WAS it! Took about 2 minutes to set up, now it WORKS! Thanks for the clue since this cat couldn't catch one!

"Call sh!thead," LMAO! Also on the radio-off command! And yeah, having a car smarter than me is perhaps a bit foolish!

It would seem that you will be all set if you hit the bluetooth button (instead of the voice command button). The 4 digit code that you are being asked to give is not a password for security, it is just to confirm that the correct 2 bluetooth devices are being paired.

After you link your phone, you should do the "system setup" (hit the bluetooth button and say "system setup". This will give you the option of setting a passcode for security as well as whether you want a ring tone or voice prompt for incoming call notification.

The only time you use the nav voice command button for bluetooth is if you are calling a number provided by the nav system.

I typed up all the audio commands from the back of the nav book onto a half sheet of paper "cheat sheet". I haven't been good about studying though.

It's easier than looking through the book, and I consolidated a lot of the commands that are repeats for different functions: ie: MP3/WMA/DVD/CD all have "Play [funct] Disk # Track #" commands.
